What they had in the beta was good enough with the laser designation. IF they had that in it would be ok, since a lot of the people flying the planes such. But if it was like arty that you don't even need a real person it would suck.

no, i think what he is saying is he can call on his team pilots for them to strike his painted target.
i vote yes for this as it will call for better teamwork oriented play. at least then pilots can work with their squads as well. and if this is what he means maybe the squad leader can get a team point for painting a hostile target for the pilots kill. |

Hey, atleast the arty is realistic. If you've ever noticed, the number of arty cannons alive (or just for the map) determines the number of shells that fall. Oddly though, if a cannon fires off rounds and then is C4'd the rounds magically disappear. Isn't C4 great?

Just a thought here, but what if they lengthened the recharge time, and actually made it so artillary could destroy vehicles (apc, tank). At this point, artillary is only really used to take out infantry, since the vehilces seem immuned for the most part. If they upped the power, to make it like actual artillary, and then changed the reload time, so that you wouldn't have a constant barrage every second, I think it could be more strategic and helpful to your team. Many a times I have seen tank drive right through a artillary barrage and cap a flag, while all the defending infantry are blown sky high, it is frustrating to watch.

I second Soyuz, arty is bad enough air strikes would make the game miserable.
Frankly I wish the arty would disappear, this game should be more about squad tactics and less about indiscriminate artillery that can kill you right when you spawn.....very irritating. If you include air strikes then please include MIRV'd nukes so I can just nuke everyone when I get to pissed after getting killed by artillery and them ground into hamburger by an air strike..... |

WTF are you guys talking about?? Arty is supposed to come out of no where if it's enemy arty. If it's friendly arty a big red circle gets drawn on the map and if you are close to it a voice says "arty your area". Run away from the red circle, pretty simple really. A decent commander will let your squad leader know precisely where it's coming down and give a verbal warning in conjunction with the in game auto warning if you're close enough... that's if you're playing real squad tactics, not just a member of a squad and still doing solo stuff.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I have died numerous times while being in an tank or apc from a direct hit. I do think that they should up the splash damage to vehicles tho. If a red circle were to show up to let you know enemy arty was coming in, what would be the point of it having arty at all then, just run away from the red circle same as if it were friendly arty. That would be just plain stupid. It takes 1 minute for arty to reload so it's a bit of an exageration that 'every other second'. I thought the Lazer targeting was supposed to be for the sniper but was dropped. Doesn't matter because it was dropped. It won't be in the game, ever. If they do introduce it in some future patch, I will buy every expansion/booster pack that ever comes out including going back and buying SWofWWII and BFV. My money is safe.

Artillery just doesn't add anything to the game. It doens't make BF2 more fun!, well maby to the commander, but for everyone else its a random pain in the ass.
All the time, there is some awsom gun battle and people are trying to push forward and its loads of fun, and then BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!! and the artillery ruins everything. So not fun... ![]() |
