I would like to share with you all about an idea i had. In the near future you will be able to have advanced A.I everywhere you go, in your car in your house and even in your poket. Talking to the A.I would be like talking to a real person. My idea is that after a month or two the A.I would get to know all about who you are, what you like and what you hate. What if as you walked through your daily life the A.I could give you a soundtrack and play it in real time. Say you are walking down the street and you come accross two shady people. The A.I would be able to sence your fear based on its knowlege about you. it then plays something to go with it, or if you are feeling powerful it could play powerful music to go with that. Every situation you come across could be complemented by music..... This would not help humanity in any way but it would make daily life sort of fun. of course you can turn it off if you dont like it, like you turn off a cell phone if you dont want calls.
Lets hear some of your original ideas about the aplication of future technologies. Especially you Urseus

Personalised live theme music ay?
Im sure mine would turn out to be something like dance of the sugar plum fairy. AI is not really something that needs to be feared. The scenarios painted in Terminator are a little different than the way that AI would be developed and implimented. The future is going to be dominated by nano-technology. Nanos are tiny tiny tiny machines that can manipulate objects at an atomic level. As im sure your all aware all matter is simply a certain organisation of atoms. Nanos can alter these atoms to turn objects from one thing into another. Lead into dimonds, plastic into....um...something that isnt plastic. They can even alter particals of air. What this means is that you will be able to inject nanos into the atmosphere and tell them to change all pollutants into clean oxygen. If you lose an arm, you could inject nanos into your system programed to turn your excess fatty tissue into a complete whole new arm skin bone muscule. They can build buildings, create machines, replicate food etc etc. The drawback from this technology is that they are so expesive to create, so tiny and complex, that they would have to be self replicating, as you need trillions of them to do anything. We could terraform planets with them, putting them into the atmosphere of mars and programming them to make the atomosphere earth like. The application of them is unending. On the other hand, they make for a frightening biological weapon. I wont go into details, but you can imagine the havok something like this would be able to do. Decomile people into sand in a large enemy city springs to mind. Then you just walk in there and sweep out the people. No radiation, no damage, just an empty enemy city. Not to forget what would happen if nanos developed AI. Imagine what a machine with that kind of capabilitys would do if it decided it no longer liked us. The golden rule of nanos is this. "Nothing is for certain in nano technology. The only thing that is, is that they will happen." Further reading - http://www.nano.org.uk/

urseus is right...that terraforming concept and actual plans based on some heavy advanced math and physics, has been around for decades.
the concepts have been there for this and a lot of other "projects" for a long time. but it's just now with computers and their math/model/simulation crunching power, that we can develop those ideas that much faster and cheaper..... whewwww....now on to the naked native exhibit you will notice....

its that whole star trek concept of turning poo into food again.
gross. anyway, i think a cool thing to have would be an underground house that is controlled completely by computer. of course the internet would be seprate from everything else. ![]() |

No youd most likly turn waste into durable products like boots or some kind of containers.
It basically means you would just have big storehouses of raw materials, and then you say what you want into the replicator, then the nanos build cake or something out of the raw materials. If developed properly, it could end famine in alot of places, as the raw materials wouldnt spoil.
