A bunch of students put together a radio telescope that works.
No small feat considering their resources...Radio Shack, spare parts, etc. That it detected a signal from beyond our solar system means they got it working nicely. To put it in perspective what it is to accomplish this, a grain a rice falling 3 cm onto a plate due to gravity has more energy than all the energy from every radio telescope since 1960. Faint...very faint signals. It may not be SETI, but it'll be open to the public. Someone may one day get organized transmission from their dish. They have a lot to be proud of. The topic was a total tease. Ha...every star produces radio waves. Last edited by Caslon : 08-12-2008 at 05:34 PM. |

I'm thinking along the lines of Caslon here.

I'm assuming disaster with that thing.
I bet it creates a quick vacuum and all our eyes get sucked out our heads. The whole planet will survive but only for a few days while all us blind assholes scratch and fight about for whatever food or water can be found. Except Hamish, he'll just lay on his stomach saying "has anybody seen my pants?" in a femanine voice. *plans sept. trip to aussieville*

Hell, that's why it didn't get switched on earlier....seriously.
Petitions kept CERN postponed because of the possiblity of the earth being thrown into a big void...something like Hsimah's reality. Cooler heads prevailed and CERN will fire up Sept 10th. Ya never know tho.... Last edited by Caslon : 08-12-2008 at 10:24 PM. |
