I'm still gonna install that Carrier AC in my unit, pending HOA approval. Puron refridgerant isn't gonna add to the ozone situation.
The fossil fuels to run it...? I'm not going to lose sleep over it this hot summer....literally. I think I can live with global warming...it's not a given proven, tho apparent. What has been proven is that stored Nuclear waste barrels need thousands of years to turn into harmless water. Last edited by Caslon : 04-26-2008 at 10:33 PM. |

I wasn't trying to talk you out of it, I think everybody that lives in the Southwest deserves something to buffer for the heat. I guess I was just too idealistic to think you would realize that even though your AC isn't running on fossile fuels directly, the electricity it runs on is created by burning them.

Yea...i couldnt have survived the weekend without my ac running at least part time. Now to say that solar, wind or other types of renewable sources arnt gonna make a dent into the power grid within 20 years is rather weak. As it is now there are quite a few people participating in the home solar kits and there are quite a few developments in solar and wind turbines for businesses. Id say they might not make a dent maybe within 5-8 years but after that i see them becoming a real factor in the power grid. Soon enough it will be possible to retrieve energy from painting your walls and hooking them into the grid. The number of advancements in renewables is a lot greater than the number in cleaner coal/oil developments. Just a matter of time id say.

If you look at Holland, for one example, the vast majority of people have solar hot water at the very least. I forget the percentage exactly, but I did a case study on it for uni years back.
Now, if you think about Southern California, or anywhere in Australia really, if we all did that we could reduce load by so much more, considering the amount of sun we get, as opposed to a European country. Caslon, as with many people, just don't care enough. Like I said before, so long as he is comfortable he is happy. Personally, I don't like a/c, the only time I use it is in the car, because those things get hot in the sun. But that said, after it has cooled down, I turn it off and roll the windows down. But whatever, really.

Ya... Thanks.
Feel free to offer up more brilliant options. Actually, I'm waiting for the damn housing market to rise back to normal. Last edited by Caslon : 04-30-2008 at 10:20 PM. |
