Default Blood drive

Red Cross came to my school today for a blood drive, removed 1 pint of blood from my body, I thought I was cool to stand up and leave, no noooooooo, start getting dizzy and almost fall over, they wouldn't let me leave for like 2 hours, pretty intense, I'm still a little funny feeling kind of.

anyone else got and blood stories

Default Re: Blood drive

I ditched english class to donate blood in 11th grade. Had to be english class too. Stupid me, english was like 6th out of 8 periods.........long story short by the time it was my turn all the good shit had been eaten/drank. I gave up a pint of my hard earned hemoglobin (sp) and got nothing for it.

Then over the next month rumors went out of control about who tested positive for what drug and how many people tested positive for HIV. Parents started calling the school and rumors went way overboard. We had to have a seperate assembly in which they brought the entire school into the gym, not just those that donated.

They had to tell us all about how they don't test for drugs and that nobody had tested positive for HIV, and that in fact no high school donars in the entire state had tested positive for HIV.

Looking back now it was funny watching geek virgins from an Ohio farm town worry about having the high 5.

They ain't gettin' my blood!

They're always trying to get me to donate blood. I can't donate though because I lived in England and I visit every year. They're afraid I might have some sort of European disease I guess.

Blood drives are used purely for keeping tabs on people and tracking the virus. They just want to know which antibodies spread fastest, and which are resistant, who is effected by what. There's a reason the Red Cross throws away more blood than they use.

I've given blood many times. I'm 2 pints shy of my 3rd gallon. Saw someone do a face-plant once, the chick broke her jaw. The nurse had turned away for only a second and *BAM*, down she goes.

I also once saw a lady's arm spring a leak. Looked like a horror flick in there. I'm sure they had a lot of donor cancellations that day.

I've only had one slightly bad experience. The nurse was a little on the green side and she didn't get the needle in the vein the first TWO times. Finally, another nurse came over and got it in correctly. My arm was a little sore for a couple of days afterward and I had an ugly crack-addict bruise on my inner arm.

Last summer I had to have blood tests weekly for about three months. My arms looked ridiculously like a heroin addicts. Was really quite amusing, no one seemed to comment though

Hang out at the chav spots, you'll get some looks.

Actually that would have been a good social experiment. Put on some shitty clothes and go to a chav mall all scratchin your neck and shit. Would have made for some funnies.

That is a culturally confusing sentence. On one hand you use the English colloquialism Chav yet you juxtapose it will mall. A distinctly American word.

But fortunately you're British. This means you already know what I'm talking about as well as likely to accept it and agree.

They throw away blood cause it goes bad after a few days, don't they?

I've never given blood, cause here you fill out a form, and I fail the illegal drugs in the past week every time. And usually alcohol in 24 hours too.

Surely they freeze/refrigerate it so it lasts longer?
