Nice work, don't think I'll be getting close to that medal anytime soon. I do have 2 Good Conduct medals and a Markmanship award, which doesn't make sense since I only have 21% accuracy and don't remember accomplishing the requirements. I do remember getting plenty of purple hearts though, six the last time I counted.

Durnit! I can't fly planes (or helicopters, for that matter) because I'm on a stupid WLAN here in my hostparent's house. The connection skips randomly for 2-4 seconds. That means certain death in almost any case, since planes and choppers then continue in the last direction (you were going down ---> You hit the ground). Sucks, but only a month left of this exchange year, then i'll have my 2Mbit DSL with LAN connection back

EDIT: Oh and btw, once Im back in Germany, I'll rape on UK servers!

Yeah, I get alot of suicides from that stuff faker. I eventually got used to it, but I still die by crashing 4x more than by enemy fire. Those trees seem to jump right up into the atmosphere sometimes.

I'm always getting shot down by AA missiles. My flares don't do anything. I get locked on, wait a couple seconds, deploy flares, and then I blow up. What sucks is that when I use the AA missiles I can never hit things because I always get stuck locked onto their flares.

Maybe you gotta change the angle when deploying them. Some people maneuver so that the flares are right behing them. Also, it has occured to me while watching myself that I always shoot at planes or choppers the first chance I get. This might be what happens to you, you might be deploying the flares after they already fired. I guess the missiles will stay on course, no matter what

As for firing AA, I figure that if you move the crosshair to the very rim of the "locking on circle", so that the crosshair is far away, but still nearer on the plane than on the flares, that you will lock on to the plane, not the flares, because the are out of "range".

Note: This was mostly guessing

Well I hate to ruin your guessing, but its all wrong. The reason most pilots wait a few seconds before deploying flares is then if a missile is comming at you and you deploy flares the missile will then switch to the flares and not the plane. Its the same when tracking for a lock, you will lock onto the flares and not the plane, no mater which one you are looking at.

flares ae usfull for breaking lock with AA long enof for you to escape, and they are also good for missles in the air, but there is a proper way of deploying them...

in my time in the air i have discovered most people deploy flares THEN maneuver, this move is futile because once u have turned you are in clear sight of AA or Enemy jet, and your flares are out of the way.

the trick is to maneuver while deploying flares. this spreads them out more making a better target for missles and distracting AA long enough to get away. i like to pull into a sharp turn and then launch flares, then turn right back the way i came to conceal myself behind the blanket of flares i just left behind.

what really sux though is you only get 1 flare shot every 30 seconds or so, so your out of luck if you run into an enemy again.
i think they should make it so flares are like ammo. you get 5-6 flare shots and then you have to rearm, this way you have enough to run an enemy jet dry if they dont know what they are doing and u can reverse the attack on them instead of them waiting for flare release then blasting 3 missles and killing you.

Its actually a very bad idea. The system they have now is a good one. Pilots that are moderatly good would be able to use up all their flares on a bombing run, go rearm their flares and bombs, and repeat the process over and over again. No one would ever be able to shoot them down, and its hard enough as it is to shoot them down.
