Default 4GB RAM?

Hey all,

I have 2GB of this stuff:
OCZ 2GB Kit(2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory NVIDIA SLI Ready CL4 Unbuffered 2.1V - Ebuyer

With it only being £35 for another 2GB, I was thinking of buying it.

Do motherboards still suffer from memory clock slow downs with all four slots occupied?

The main reason I'm tempted to go for it is to help alleviate stuttering in games such as STALKER.

Thanks!

Memory clock slowdowns aren't the cause of stutter in todays games with a good card, MB and 2GB's of onboard system ram.

When 2GB was king, and you wanted benchmarking to be the best, it used to be better to have 4 uniform- 512MB in 4 slots rather than 2 1GB's in 2 slots (of motherboards that took advantage of that).

2 GB of system virtual memory should be plenty and is not causing stalls in your game. What's more telling, is your video cards onboard memory capability and your cpu. How old is your MB? Vid card?

Cpu's and the memory on vid cards these days work closer together than in the past for gaming.

I doubt throwing in 2 more Gigs of system memory is going to cure the stutter.

If you're going to keep your present mb for awhile, and want a bit better multitasking, go for it.
Ya never know when another quake is gonna hit Asia, and memory prices skyrocket again.
Just don't expect 2 more gigs of ram to cure that game stutter.

Again I say, multiple memory modules need to be almost identical, spec wise, for such type MB's to even utilize them as the MB intends.

Thanks Caslon.

yeah my 320MB 8800GTS is lacking enough memory to run games at 1920x1200.

Ah well, thanks mate. I'll get a G100 when they come out

I have the same video card as you. Crysis stuttered at high rez setting.

It's kinda rediculous that they made a game so "future proofed" that by the time
it runs smooth at higher resolutions on a future video card, Crysis will be old hat.

Hopefully Crysis Warhead will live up to the promise of performance Improvements. Hell, i wouldn't mind if it came out on XBOX360 running at a solid 30fps.

Typical EA lol. Crysis - Warhead appears to be the first game all over again, except from Psycho's POV and with a tweaked engine.

I hope I'm wrong.
