Default Any iPod Touch users?

Hey all, my current 20GB Creative Zen Touch is starting to show it's age. The Firmware is old, and the buttons are failng badly.

I've been looking at the iPod Touch, but its current price and my lack of funds are holding me back.

The 16GB is £250, with the 32GB (due for release 15/2/2008) is £330

I like the iPhone, but you HAVE to buy it with an O2 contract, so I'd have to unlock it with specialist firmware to use a regular O2 pay as you go SIM card. However that means no official updates from Apple. For this reason, I was thinking of going the 16GB iPod Touch route. Plus, I'm not massively after the phone functionality.

Anyone used these? I've played with an iPhone, and I have to say, I really loved it.

Has anyone got an iPod Touch? AFAIK, they're essentially the iPhone but without the phone and SMS lol. I would like to get 32GB ideally, but not at £330!!

Thanks!

I have a 16gb touch.

It is sex in an mp3 player.

As much as I dislike Apple the interface and technology really do justify the exorbitant price tag.

Thanks, I have the exact same opinion. Previously, I would never go near Apple, and I always stuck to Creative. My sister had the original 512mb shuffle. It broke. Then she got another one. It broke too.

However, I really think Apple are doing some great things. Just checkout the 2008 Keynote video at their site. They have some impressive stuff!

Grim, how do you find the iTunes music store? How are the prices? Can you buy films in the UK yet?

What did you pay for it? Dixons have it for £230 which is surprisingly the best price I have found so far (well OverClockers UK have it for £229, but they have bad reps).

I got it from Amazon for £240 two months ago. £230 seems about right.

As for the iTunes store I wouldn't really know. It's not something I've used.

Is it possible that future firmware updates will increase the file type support? The video/audio types that it supports is very restrictive atm - it doesn't even support WMA or WMV!. One big concern for me

Highly doubt that, since Apple is unlikely to implement support for their rival's formats (Microsoft).

That shouldn't put you off too much, though, since you can easily convert those formats into mp3/avi/m4a/whatever Itunes uses.

Itunes automatically coverts WMA to a compatible format when you import them. It's quite a simple process.

Cool thanks lads.

Seeing as it's my 21st on wed, I think I may spend the extra and get the 32GB iPod Touch when it arrives on Friday. Play has them for £310.

Thankfully, most of my tunes are MP3, so only those that are WMA will need to be converted.

iTunes automatically detects music and videos on your computer and adds them to the library when it then transferred to your iPod. Don't worry about file types. Even though it says in some places that it can only play movies downloaded through iTunes, that's false. It'll play all videos that have normal file types.

why get an ipod touch that can only hold 16gb at the moment for $400 when you can get an ipod classic that holds 160 Gb for $350 or an 80 GB for $250. I'm about to sell my 5th gen 30 GB so I can get my an 80 GB 6th gen. I really like the new firmware on them.
