Just bought a Linksys AG241 router with built in ADSL modem. I got it because I bring my work laptop home sometimes and just because its better to be "always connected" and have a decent firewall running. I know I could just use a crossover cable but I like to surf in the other room sometimes and trust cable over wireless...stupid I know..
Trouble is I could not get it to work. I had no idea why as connecting with my ADSL modem was fine and I visited the ISP website to make sure I setup the router correctly. It turns out there was a little notice on the quick start guide (to hell with those...I always look if it does not work rather than waste precious seconds ) that said you can only have a microfilter at the wall socket and no where in between. At the moment I have one of these going from my computer room downstairs and under the carpet to the wall socket with the microfilter:Maplin > Telephone Line Jack Extension Cords Plugged into it I have *another* microfilter as the connection is not RJ11 on the extension lead. So..after my fucking essay basically all I need to know is, is there an adaptor for the RJ11 to go direct into the extension as I really don't want to arse around unpinning it, taking the carpet up and laying another cable!!! I have looked at a couple of sites and cannot find anything so help is appreciated!!! Reps for joo....

So, you basically need to adapt from an RJ-45 to an RJ-11? Would this help or am I misunderstanding your issue? It looks like you need a male RJ-45 to female RJ-11. This isn't it, but you could put a short CAT-5 cable between to get it to work.
RJ11 to RJ45 Adapter

Nah I needed a RJ11 to standard UK telephone lead. I bought one today and its still not working. The line is active as thats greenlighted on the gateway but internet is red lighted. My PC can see the gateway in network connections and I can use Firefox to connect to the router to change settings etc but I just cannot get a net connection. I double checked my ISP settings on thier website and all is good.
I may have to post on the Linksys forums. Thanks for the help all!!

Yeah, if you have more than one microfilter out of a single phone socket your router won't be able to synch, and thus won't be able to connect.
Am I right in thinking you need RJ-11 into the router? If so it sounds like Monk's right... you need a female RJ-45 to male RJ-11 connector? Or just join the 21st Century and use wifi :P Using WPA with a strong key is basically uncrackable - no security worries. |

Nah I removed the second microfilter...hence why I needed the RJ11 to standard UK lead. I just plug the router directly into the extension lead that goes down to the microfilter in the front room and still no joy
