Default Failed HDD

My two year old SATAII 200GB Samsung HDD is packing in.

I'm after a replacement. I already have a second 320GB HDD to hold docs/music etc so I don't need a huge HDD for my Windows/programs drive.

I'm looking at this:

dabs.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB S300 16MB (WD3200AAKS)

I don't want the 10K as theyre jsut too pricey for me.

What do you think of that drive?

What are the benefits of using a SATA optical drive over IDE?

Get one of the AAKS WD drives, they're uber quick and the best 7200rpm drives at the moment.

SATA is just more convenient for optical drives, no master/slave setting and neater cabling.

Thanks grim, it works for me. I HATE ribbon cables.

Think I'll buy that WD HD and one of these ASUS optical drives:

Asus DRW-1814BLT 18x18 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - Retail

Question...I fried my SATA by plugging both power connectors in (I know I know....it was my first proper self build ). Its been sitting in a box for over a year. If I get a new circuit board for it (if I can find one?) will I still be able to use it/access the data on it?
