ok so i have avg antispyware and my subscription is about to run out and i want to know of some other spyware programs which are good i am look for good detection rate and use very little system resources.

Ad-Aware 2007 Free - Lavasoft

Those are the two free ones I use. I'm not sure about their resource usage since I don't have them running constantly, just do a scan once a week,

see thats the thing i love though is the knowledge of a running shield i may do that though and just make sure i run a scan once or twice a week

Adaware runs the aawservice.exe service even when the program is not running. I think this may be a "running shield" but I'm not sure.

Windows Defender is the worst of the worst. I've read countless reviews saying it doesn't catch shit. So no, don't get that. Stick with adaware and spybot, also a program I like that cleans out temp files called ccleaner (crap cleaner):

well my ubuntu i can't get to install and i want to duial boot with xp so i can't just wipe the hard drive

What about knoppix?

Just download the ISO and burn it onto a CD. You do not need to install it, it just runs off of the CD.

It may allow to access your drive and backup vitals and fix any problems.

I take it the problem you are getting is that you cannot get to the desktop due to spyware? Or have I misread your posts?

u did not read right. But u did give some interesting info about that linux. So thanks for that. Did not know there was a linux that could do that definetly trying it out.

Spybot has an immunization feature, which may as well be a shield that uses less resources.
