In English please, bullet points if you have to. Thank you ![]() Delete the Windows Folder? ![]() Is it a 2nd HD that you plan to use as a documents only folder? Or are you going to use a dual boot? Either way you are going to need to format it using Windows or other programs such as partition magic. |

ok yes my english sucks i will try again.
A friend i have has a emachines computer and another computer just crashed so she had her uncle get the hard drive out of it and put it in the other computer they have. The hard drive is recognized by windows wut she has all her music on the drive which she needs. and when she goes to play a song or enter some folders it says access is denied. She can not copy or paste anything and i thought maybe deleting the windows folder would get rid of the problem. But she can not even do that. She is not dual booting or anything so ir there any way to fix the access problems |

I think that his situation is tat he is putting another windows boot disk into his machine to try and get some data off it. Assuming that the windows install on the new disk was password protected there may be restricted access to it. I'm not 100% sure on that though. One way you could do it is by booting Linux off a CD as that would simply bypass any restrictions that may be in place. However that I think may be too hard for you to grasp.

My understanding is you've got an old Windows install on a 2nd hard-drive which you're putting into another machine. When you try and read files from the old Windows install it doesn't allow it.
If this is the case, it's because Windows doesn't allow you to access another user's files. What you can usually do though is reset the permissions on the old Windows install so that your working Windows install can access these files. To do this...

Hmmm, do you know if you're using Windows XP Home or Professional? It could be a Professional-only feature, I'll check...
Edit: Looks like to do it in Home, you have to follow these instructions: How to Disable Simple File Sharing in Windows XP Home Edition - wikiHow |
