I have a Hitachi Superscan Elite 751. The first 19" shadow mask tube ever to be marketed. Cost me $900 bills 7 yrs. ago.
Or could it be a faulty vid card? X800XT. I just formatted C: to make sure....same thing happening. When I scroll down these posts...the monitor keeps redrawing as if it can't keep up. Note: My bro dropped a heavy 4 pound stack of cd's right at the monitor connector at back of PC case. There was some wierdness in picture untill he juggled the connector back and forth. X800XT been ok...but sometimes wierd. My fat CRT connector to AGP at rear case was too tight a fit. I even had to shave some plastic off the connector as it met up to tight against the case ledge where monitor plug had to go. It must be the monitor..right? Because I had to turn it off and on to get windows to come up and screen was black...but I heard Windows XP welcome sound. If a CRT monitor has trouble redrawing...like when I scroll down these posts...is it definately the monitor? Or could it be the vid card? I'm asking because I don't know what to replace....My beloved CRT or the vid card (that might be at fault). Any antecdotes or experiences in this area welcomed. |

I have that redrawing problem when I haven't installed the proper video card drivers (i.e. using Win XP's standard ones). But I guess you are using the right ones.
To be honest, dropping stuff on the connector could break the card and the monitor - easiest way to check is if you have another monitor and another graphics card to swap out and see if it still happens. Or just plug the monitor into another PC and see if it happens. |

mrhahn...I don't have that luxury to test.
I'm beginning to suspect the monitor. It came up black with windows startup chime. After I turned it off and on and restarted pc...worked. Then again..CRT's can be workhorses and last a long time. mrhahn....heh...I've got monitor brightness and contrast set to max. Maybe that's a sign it's giving out? Maybe this excellent monitor is giving out. First ever 19" shadow mask tube monitor. Anyways..I reformatted my entire pc trying to find out what's up. It could be vid card wierdness too. Here's another wierd thing..when I right click mouse on desktop to bring up anything...(video card settings)...that image takes its time appearing. It appears slowly. Wierd. |

? It does sound just like a new OS install up until the Vid drivers get done.
The only time Ive ever been able to duplicate the effect is when Ive got a high-memory application running, something grabbing all the system resources, then alt-tab to desktop and start surfing flash-heavy pages.... |

I don't know what happened, but I got current monitor and vid card running
smooth again after about 2 hours of messing with Safe mode boot ups. For how long? Who knows? I'll probably drive my current monitor into the ground before I go with an LCD monitor. I'm researching which 19" LCD is the best for games. |

Thanks for that URL and brand/model.
I'll research it. CRT monitors yield the deepest blacks. They are big and heavy and run hot tho. Did I mention I paid $900 for my Hitachi Superscan Elite 751 back in '99 when it was the first 19" shadow mask tube on the market? Lol...I gotta get my moneys worth outta this sucker. This behemoth may be dying tho. It's working as I type...but overnight I may boot it up and windows XP welcome will chime and screen will be black. Thanks again for that link. That LCD 19" looks like a winner. |
