Windows Vista Hardware requirements (aka Longhorn)

I just read that, in order to run Windows Vista (announced for end of 2006) at best performance you will need a Dual Core CPU, 1 GB of DDR2 Ram and a 256 MB GPU with a S-ATAII-HD.

Now, if this is true then WTF is MS doing ?

An operating system is supposed to be sleek and flexible and not require the same hardware as a modern FPS.

WTF does Windows need a GPU for anyway ?

The windows desktop effects wil be done by the GPU.
So your window title looks like its written on glass and such things.

I probably wont be upgrading from XP till 2007/08 anyway.

Vista will be buggy for at least half a year. So i dont need to buy duel core just yet.

same here. if microsoft really makes vista's requirement that high, they will be choking themselves. xp had a higher requirement but even okay computers can run it. if they suddenly increase hardware requirement like that, no one will be buying it. Well Microsoft will not be getting any money out of me for this. According to those specs my computer will be obsolete when Vista comes out. That makes me angry, VERY angry.

But then again its an excuse to buy a super duper PC.

Yes I'm back. But only on these forums unless you can use mIRC for mac. I checked their site and they don't even mention macs. I've been gone for two months at some concentration camp/school during the summer, and I'm stuck here for the school year too. Its boarding so no gaming computer for me and thus no BF. I do have this new iBook so internet is here!
