Default Post your impressions of DC .3 here!

OK I've played it for about an hour on pub servers and here are my impressions so far.

Overall
With the introduction of troop carriering choppers now, I can see DC becoming more of an Air Cav mod, with mobile infantry attacking faster from choppers. Appears to be bug free, and new classes with weapons offer much more game play options. Two thumbs up.

Good:
* New choppers have tighter controls, smoother gameplay, seem to be balanced well.
* New infantry weapons are cool, including mortar and sand bags.
* I've gotta try suicide bomber!! (For Allah!)
* .3 unleashes a huge amount of additional gameplay, vehicles and weapons for eveyone to enjoy.

Bad:
* Very vehicle centric mod now.
* Some balancing issues
* C130 is now the ubber weapon.

POST YOUR THOUGHTS NOW!

Theres only 1 server up in Australia. But the game is really fun. Its only good on the desert maps though and midway. It is simply no fun on karkov or kursk.

I played that new map with a full server, and goddam thats fun. The abrams are so cool looking when you have like 5 of them rolling across the plains. Those smoking wrekage makes it really iraqarian.

Overall a whole lot of fun. Harrier is cool i was afraid it would be like a plane with helicopter controles but its cool.

For some reason, the Harrier takes off like a plane instead of a helicopter on mine. DC. 0.3 is really cool though.

EDIT: One cool thing I found, is that the Bradley acts as an APC now (with a cool looking interior too).

Tay i read on the DC forums that thats on cause of the carrier its on, some bug that if they fixed it it would make everything fall thru the ship i think.

What you have to do is go forward a little bit, then hold backwards and you take off upwards like a heli.

anyone played .3h then .3 final.

I really like .3h better, can u belvie that?

I liked how the old mortar made you invincle while firing. The way you had to use a greanade to take it out made it balnced. Especially now its very vunerable.

Dot.com Cowboy There was a guy on a sever who was on coalition and said "FOR ALLAH" as he dived the ac-130 into the coalition base.

There is also another bug they know about. If you are a gunne on a tank and get out of tank on a bridge. You fall through and die.

If you want to VTO (vertical takeoff) and you're flying with a joystick then you have to throttle back 100% (as if you'd be going backwards in the regular BF1942 airplane). That will lift you off the deck of a carrier (no matter which one) and once you achieve the desired altitude add full throttle and you're on your way - flying straight as an arrow.

I'm not a big fan of that plane though (seems oddly underpowered and outgunned by all other aircraft - except the Blackhawk).

Â*
My impression of .3?

I love the BlackHawk chopper. More often than I can remember I take controls and wait for ppl to get in - fill it up. There are quite a few impatient ppl out there but the hell with em. .. I wait until the chopper's full. Then a nice transport ride to a flag, hover over a clearing get the ppl to get off (4 troopers) and then I fly back to a rally point (carrier). Did it today on Wake and we managed to capture 4 flags in succession that way until some weenie flew into the chopper with his Mig29. I could accept getting shot down by an RPG but not being intentionally rammed by a tactical fighter jet (BTW the guy's reason to fly into the chopper was to simply bring down the chopper. LMFAO... he accused me of "cheating" saying: "No one can fly a chopper without crashing - so you're a «cheating b*st*rd p**ce of s**t»") .

So my impression = still waaaaaaaay too many smacktards out there that don't bother playing the game as it should be played (teamwork) but get their jollies off using their supersonic airplanes as guided missiles and belching out profanities that would make Denis Leary sound like an alterboy in comparison. ... that's when I get my feet planted on the ground, get a good weapon ready and storm the flags... rack up those points and seem like a god to the other players.

BTW - the AC130 flies like a truck! Take it from someone that does quite well in the air! Be warned don't even think of getting into that plane with a JR pilot (who thinks he/she knows it all). You'll be gone faster than you can say "boo". Other thing - if you're thinking of flying in the AC130 as a gunner do everyone a favor and spawn as an engie (take the shotgun kit). At least you'll be able to be in the air much longer. I was on a server where ppl seemed to have gotten the idea and we all went in there as engies... The AC130 stayed up in the air for a loooooong time!

Chef I think I saw you doing that. I was stuck on Iraqi side. Got landed on once and mini-gunned twice. Damn nice flying! I think I have a screenie of you doing it too.

My impressions after playing 1.3 on a public server with Stalingrad and Midway.

Stalingrad-Urban combat now a lot better with the different classes, a good tactic is to board up the windows in the buildings with Sandpags then crouch on the windowledge and shoot out.

Wake-Harriers are sweet, in some ways its easier to hit targets with bombs rather than missiles. Black hawk is sweet as well although i didnt uet to pilot it, and no one could manage to make a landing everyone, everyone parachuted out instead.

General- I really like the new class system, really improves combat. Mortars are cool, however i did notice a bug, you can shoot with a mortar from behind a wall if you place the mortar in front of the wall.

Overall very good and now im going back to play with the AC130

is it me or the server i joined, or are the Harriers very jerky??

I'm really pleased with this addition and glad they added some more details like shadons on vehicles, the new cockpits for the jets, new look for allied, new classes etc etc. its really awesome. the new vehicles also rule! i like those artillery tanks...look like overloads from generals kinda. the blackhawk owns when you drop 6 people over enemy base. havent tried the ac130 yet but i know the hind is fucking hard to fly

DC .3 owns
I cant wait for the retail, hoping it will have better voicing for iraqi's, and switch the migs to ooposition and f16's to coalition. also some other minor game balancing tweaks. i hate when people sandbag doorways of spawn points thats just stupid.

I haven't played online yet, but I've tried all the vehicles offline and they're incredibly sweet. The Blackhawk handling is perfect, as is the Hind. The Harrier feels strange in forward flight, a little unstable and too much like a helo, but its bombs seem powerful.

The Scud is insane! Very slow, need to move the whole vehicle to aim, but the blast damage is immense. My test fire took out 3 tanks and a Shilka in a single round at the Iraqi base in El Alamein

The Su-25 Frogfoot and bomber-variant A10's are wonderful, the fin retarded bombs look spot on drifting down and you can now carpet bomb at quite low altitude without blowing yourself to pieces.

The HumVee now turns much tighter but is quite a lot slower. This isn't going to please a lot of people but it's much, much fairer for Axis now.

The AC-130 is simply the Daddy. Being able to look left with primary fire (right in the Blackhawk) and call arty with secondary is sweet, but the whole thing is just a huge, lumbering awesome sight. I will be flying it, but when I'm on Axis the AC-130 pilot better have an F16 covering him or I'll be on him with a Mig.

The one thing the Spectre does need to watch for is the new Shilka-style quad barrel fixed AA. Haven't used it in anger yet but it looks like it'll make a real mess of an airframe real fast. That should put a kink in the tail of all but the best pilots out there, especially as a lot of aircraft are now bombers and you can't just missile your target from range. It'll be hard to get a helo in close too.

New classes are really interesting, the mortar is awesome but I'd like it to be possible for the support class to pick it back up again. Haven't found which class has the sandbags yet, thought it would be support but it isn't.

Hopefully Saturday's patch will put the Dune Messiah map from 0.3h back in. It's the map in my sig, and it looked really good fun. If it's not in the official game but only available separately I doubt many servers will be running it.

Overall it looks sweet, I can't wait to be playing it on Sunday night. Curse being away for the weekend

Yeah.. hehe.. a shotty. Acyually there are no more "engineers"... They're called "support personnel" now. Don't fret, that thing's powerful. I've taken out so many with that thing it's not funny. One shoot - kaboom - gone... next! LOL. BTW that new class is called "support". Range isn't the greatest but it works wonders in close combat situations like clearing out city buildings.

support personnel carry
knife,
handgun,
shotgun,
wrench,
first aid kit
mortar (you deploy them but can't pick them up again)
grenades.

The sniper is a sniper -
knife,
handgun,
sniper rifle
grenades.

Special Operations (SpecOps) has the targetting binoculars now
knife,
handgun
MP5
detpacks (no grenades)
mines
binoculars
- opposition variant additionally carries "strap-on" explosives for suicide attacks

Assault:
knife,
handgun
M16A2 or AK47
sandbags (press 5 then "fire" to deploy)
grenades

Anti-armor
knife,
handgun
bazooka or RPG
grenades
mines

Heavy Assault
knife
handgun
SAW or PRK <---- POWERFUL!!!!
detpacks (no grenades)

Overall nice balancing and choice of weaponry.
