Are you suffering low fps, sometimes intermittently? Do you get strange lag around the temple in Ho Chi Minh or when you get to a busy area of a map? Do you think it's an ATI issue?
Then you might be wrong. Even more than BF:1942, BF:V gives your soundcard a very, very heavy workout and there's one setting above all else that seems to affect what you can get away with. I'm running a Radeon 9600XT and I was tempted to put my troubles down to the so-called ATI issue, but friends with the same card, CPU, motherboard and ISP weren't having the same trouble. If you're having these odd fps/lag issues then take a look at your sound options and what you're using for the sound provider. I've found that any EAX (1,2 or 3) causes this slowdown while using Miles solves the problem completely. As a solution this sucks as you lose surround sound, but it does at least work. Prior to using Miles I was frequently dropping to slideshow FPS in busy areas even on low pop servers, but using Miles it's super-smooth even on a busy 40-man server. No other sound setting seems to matter, if I turn EAX on then there's nothing I can turn down low enough to get the FPS back. I'm running an Audigy 2 with fully up-to-date drivers so I don't expect it's an issue with hardware, so give it a try and see if it helps you out. |

I´ve had issues with EAX in almost any game I´ve played up-to-date. Although my Hardware should support EAX 2.0 it seldomly works bug free. CoD, Far Cry and BFV always mess up after a while with EAX. I find that very anyoing because I don´t know why...

BFV is the only game I've ever had to disable EAX in. Incidentally two friends of mine just upgraded to Audigy 2 ZS cards, one from a Soundblaster Live and one from a Hercules card. They'd both been playing with Miles 2D sound on those cards fine so I asked them to try EAX on the new cards and they both found the same thing as me, frequent but intermittent dips in FPS, often to slideshow levels.
Looks like BFV is just trying to do way too much with EAX if the latest high-end Creative card can't handle it. I wonder how many people who think their issues are down to ATI cards have EAX selected in their sound properties. It's a shame there's no way to turn off some features of EAX to get FPS back, I'd happily turn off some effects to get surround sound back. |
