(sorry for the Geocities links... but the damn thing wouldn't let me display the images remotely. Cut'n paste the link in a new window. :/)
Hey! Finally, here are some pictures of the Viet flare gun. No... don't spend hours looking for the gun in the game, I had to temporarly modify my .RFA files to be able to use it. The Flare Gun indeed exists in the game, but it hasn't been included in the active arsenal. Maybe they were keeping it for night maps or something, but it looks rather incomplete in my opinion. Here are a few screenies to show you. Sorry for the crappy quality: low ingame resolution + jpg conversion... ![]() http://www.geocities.com/corax1975/i...flaregun_1.jpg Here's the Flare Gun. It's not much: 2 tubes put together around a grip. You have 2 shots in the gun plus 1 reload. You can see two of my shots in the palm tree... http://www.geocities.com/corax1975/i...flaregun_2.jpg A closer look at the flare effect after firing a shot on a hut. The flare itself looks like a deflated blue football ball spitting flames on two sides... http://www.geocities.com/corax1975/i...flaregun_3.jpg Here is probably the reason why the gun isn't in the active arsenal: A shot fired in the air will litterally send the flare in orbit without much of a flare effect (It's the blurry dot pointed by the green arrow). It seems the flare "deploys" only after a collision. So the flare gun isn't really a flare gun, but rather a gun used to mark a position or an object with a flaming football ball... :P However, I've seen a screenshot on EA's BFV's forums where you could see the flare actually burning while flying... but I guess it's only visible on better video cards. On a side note, the flare is also sticky to vehicles and cause light damages to them. But it doesn't seem to have any effect on infantry (too baaaaaad :P). |

I wonder why they didn't end up using this.
Could they not actually get it to explode or glow midair? Couldn't be! They must have scrapped it for another reason. All they would have to do is give it some kind of a lift property like the mortar or artillery (bullet property would cause it to go forever) and then when it reaches the point where it loses lift it should get a floaty parachute like effect. Hmmm...

EOD has those grenades that act like flares, you throw them then they light up the area for a short period. But it would just be a novelty item for a short period in BFV, the maps arent dark enough maybe they plan on releasing some night maps in the future.
