Default BFV, similiar to BF1942 in filestructure

Good news to Modders, check out the latest community update:

Quote:
Question: Pagliacci asks if there is someone who can help him with the Mod Development Toolkit...and will there be an MDT for Battlefield Vietnam?

Answer: Look no further than the Forums at PlanetBattlefield *Melee Edit* "devils I tells ya". In the next few days a new forum will appear there called Ask Rex. Rex, as some of you might already know, is THE tools guru for Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam. He also worked on most of the tools in the current MDT. He'll field any of your MDT-related questions. And yes, the MDT 2.0 is updated and upgraded with some great additions for BFV. Watch the community update in the next few weeks for more information.

Question: Kevin asks if we can explain in more detail what the Vehicle Importer does in Mod Development Toolkit for BFV?

Answer: The MDT 2.0 will do the following for both vehicles AND static objects:
Import vehicles and static objects for BF1942 or Battlefield Vietnam
It will import all models and textures
Allow you to reposition parts and save changes back to your mod without editing or extracting any files
Question: From James, "...will BCV (Battlecraft Craft Vietnam, the map editor, be included with the game) include features to add/remove files in the .rfa archive?"

Answer: Yes, it will. You will be able to add/remove content in the level archive using the Add File to Archive function and remove in the Archive Manager function.
So it uses .rfa, seems like similiar in files. And rexman is gonna get alot of emails about "WHY CANT I MADE A MOD WIT SPACESHIPZ AND CATS WITH NAILGUNS????"

Oh cool, I happen to know Rexman too. He was one of the leaders for the mod Codename Eagle. It was a good shit, shame that it didn't really succeed. :/

Yeah, I've used quite a few of rexmans tools. (Pre MDK). Talking to rexxie about this same thing. Kinda agreed that most mods wouldnt be the same without the modding tools he made for CE. CE was alright. I think it was a little too soon for most. Then again, now people expect absolute 100% perfection in mods. If it doesnt have all bugs fixed, 10+ new maps, and more vehicles than they can drive, they say it "SUCKZ A$$ DUDE!!!11!"

i hate mods with too many vehicles (Desert Combat) and mods with too many maps that havent been perfected and were just rushed out to say that they have 200 thousand 89 million maps (Desert Combat) mods need to go with not too many vehicles so that the players know what they are driving and what it does, and not too many maps so that you are always lost

I remember seeing some screenshots on Planetbattlefield.com that showed BF: Vietnams file strukture. Its supposed to be nearly identical with original BF and so make modding as easy as before...

Hey nice find yetix!

Some of these guys asking the questions tho:

Quote:
and Why did you just not adapt the way helicopters work in DC (which is perfect) rather than programming the controls all over?

Thought this was a pretty good one

Quote:
Does the new game use the same game-engine as BF1942? A modification of BF 1942 named desertcombat seems to focus on air combat. Will we see more planes in BF vietnam?

The BFV engine started life as the BF42 engine. We replaced the graphics engine with a state of the art one and then began rewriting portions of the main engine. So, although there are similaritites, the BFV engine is a hybrid. It isn't completely new, but it isn't the same either.

BFV has a different focus on each map. Some maps are air focused, while others are infantry focused. There is a very wide range.

Pretty cool, Answers some questions.

And this of course is what I was looking for:

Quote:
I would like to know if todays mods (like DesertCombat) for Battlefield 1942, can be easily "converted" to the BF:Vietnam engine, or must they be made all over again? Thanks for you time.

They can be converted with a little time and effort. The new system will allow the modders more features to play with as well. From a user standpoint, the mods won't be usable until they've been converted.
Just got word from the homefront leader, talked to rex, said that models will not need conversion. Thats pretty cool.
