It probably costs a good chunk of change to have an ad placed in game.
Ppl were wondering whether we'd be seeing McDonalds or iTunes billboards. I read a report that says ingame ads are going to increase. That follows, movies are doing it like crazy. |

To me that shows that they are having big problems selling the ad space. Has anyone ever seen any adverts asides from Intel? Also, earlier on in the games life they resorted to adding billboards promoting the in game teams. Certainly not the money spinner EA invisaged.

AMD was the darling of the enthusiast gaming world, awhile back.
AMD still accounts for 25% of chip sales. AMD has taken a $578 million dollar loss last year. The year before..they had a huge profit for the year. Now they've slacked behind Intel in the top end cpu market advancement scene. There are even rumors of a buyout now. They're dropping lower end cpu prices. That doesn't work anymore for AMD Being less expensive once helped AMD when they were on par with Intel. |

The ironic thing is that even though Intel now have by far the fastest chip AMD sales are still increasing because of the image the enthusiast sector has built up around them. Just look at our friend above. Also see Dell starting to offer AMD and the dominance Opterons have in the server market. The loss they made was probably down to the buyout of ATI although I'm no accountant.
I fully expect AMD to bounce back. Unlike GPUs, CPUs take longer to develop. When AMD launch Barcelona it may well be quicker than Conroe. Then the enthusiast sector will switch back. |
