Question Verify Ownership

So since a few nights ago, I've been starting to get an error when starting up 2142. It pretty much says, "The game cannot start. Log into EA Link to verify your ownership and try again." Even when I'm logged in, I still get the error. The only source I can possibly trace this to, is when I installed Daemon Tools temporarily, but I removed it shortly thereafter.

I've tried disabling anti-virus/firewall, the error code solutions and multiple reinstalls of EA Link and 2142. EA Support suggested I had 2142 installed on multiple computers, but this is not the case. The only thing I have not done is uninstalling 2142 and EA Link at the same time, and reinstalling one after the other, so I might try that. If that doesn't work, then I'm all out of ideas.

First time I have heard of this error, but probably because I have yet to update my EA downloader to the *new improved* version they have named EA Link.

Reminds me of an umbilical cord. Anywho, I'm surprised that the people at the support center couldn't suggest a more fitting solution rather than suggest you have multiple installs.

Sorta takes the fun out of the situation when you have to spend so much time installing, reinstalling, an on the phone with tech support.

Best of luck, and please let us know how you end up resolving.

Well it seems to be a problem with my router. I noticed that my EA Link mainscreen was only displaying, "blank?locale=en_US". I then installed it on another computer in the house, where the screen came up fine. I'm not sure why it started happening now, but I'm going to try adding my IP into the DMZ.

Edit: Still nothing.

Though I have to ask, how did you manage to keep your EA Downloader? Mine was updated without a word. Would you happen to have the installer for it as well?

This is why I prefer to buy hard copies of a game.
I also realize everyone doesn't have a store nearby to buy the game.

Searched my computer as well as the net for a ea downloader setup file. Everything seems to have gone down the memory hole.

I have core.exe, but I think it all pertains to the installed file.

What about just reinstalling?

Still nothing. Thanks for helping though.

The problem seems to be something weird with my computer and EA's account servers. I mean, I can download 2142 fine, but if I were to try to go to account.ea.com, the website would not come up. Looking through EA Link's error logs, it needs to connect to this site to download some file.

I'm just going to say screw it, and probably buy a hard copy.

Lesson learned. :P

Edit: Am I right in assuming that the hard copy version doesn't need EA Link?

Hey. Just thought I would share my info in this matter. I have the same problem, and after several emails (and having to repeat myself) to EA support, I got this:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts!

We are currently tracking down the cause of this issue that some users as well as yourself are experiencing. Everything on your account appears fine so once we have resolved this issue you should be able to play the game again. Hopefully we will have this issue nailed down sometime next week which I can understand can be frustrating for you, I am very sorry for the complications.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Landon F.

Please read entire thread...

This was not a question, but info to your consultant Cyrous D.

The game has worked great for months.

The problem is that I now get an error msg from EA downloader saying I need to log in to EA downloader (even when starting BF2142 from it!) saying I have to log in to EA downloader to verify my ownership.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you can stop trying to find out what is wrong on your side. Hopefully they'll fix it by this week..
