So what do you guys think? The game has been out for a bit now and I'm wondering what everyone thinks about it and the fact that there is an IP tracker which is installed on your system.
I have played Battlefield since the 1942 demo like many of you guys here. I was stoked when the retail hit on September 14 2002, and was even more thrilled when Battlefield Vietnam came out. I simply couldn't wait for Battlefield 2 once I saw the screenshots, and finally, was drooling over 2142's screen screenshots as well. I am a huge fan of the Battlefield seriously, although BF2 did not make as strong of an impact as BF1942, BFV, and Desert Combat Mod made on me. Quite frankly, I was a bit disappionted with the "feel" of the game, and BF2142 feels exactly like BF2 did. Yes It is a mod based off the BF2 engine. Yes it does install Spyware, as will all future EA PC titles. Yes it does show little to no improvement over BF2. But I will admit I have enjoyed the game here and there. I can start by saying that the maps are very interesting and fun through trek through. I really like the fact that each map has it's own little theme song. It's kinda nice. The atmosphere is original and the graphics are touched up. The firefights are still hit and miss with me. I'll be knifing someone in the back, only to have them turn around and kill me with an assault rifle. Things like that make me tear my hair out. I lose almost every firefight and I'm wondering if there is some sort of secret as to where to aim on an enemy soldiers body. It's frustrating most of the time. But I do enjoy Titan mode and think it's a great concept, althought it's buggy and laggy as all hell. Honestly, I don't think the game is worth the 49.99. It would be more acceptable seeing it as a 29.99 game. Any thoughts? |

BF2142 is more accurate/less lag when played on 16 vs. 16 rather then on these 32 vs. 32 player type servers.
Case in point: I ping 42 ms (which is excellent) to a big ass 25+ vs. 25+ type server. All who join that server don't have my nice ping...but the average ping is half way OK. Result: Onboard Titan skirmishes lag almost to a halt!!!! Some say it's because Commanders move the Titan ship. I ping 42ms and Titan ship combat play is almost unplayable. So much for DICE and their BS about 64/64. I get smoother onboard Titan battles when I stay away from 25+ vs. 25+ type servers (which is a shame). DICE proudly said that such big numbers of players would be possible in BF2142. Ya..right. Such play is possible...but DICE left out that onboard Titan combat would be reduced to slow shutter speed. For me, any server with more than 16 vs. 16....the onboard Titan gameplay lags baaaaaad. (take note of the lag on Special Forces carrier map...same thing happening with combat play aboard the Titan ships when the number of players exceeds 16 vs. 16). Not once has this not been true in my online play (onboard Titan combat with more than 16 vs. 16). Last edited by Caslon : 10-28-2006 at 08:39 AM. |
