HELP!!! I have bought BF 2142 from the EA Website and installed it but it wont work!!

Hey,

I need some help here. I have bought the full Battlefield 2142 from the EA website. I habe completely installed it. Yet when clicking the icon i get a message saying "EC : 5570." I have tried reinstalling it 3 times with out a firewall up, and i get the same thing.

If you have any suggestions please help.

The fix:
Obviously you've already installed the game. DO NOT UNINSTALL!
1) Make sure you have applied the patch in the EA Downloader
2) Close out of the EA Downloader
3) Download the EA Downloader again, you can find it here:
https://files.ea.com/downloads/eacore/ead-installer.exe
4) Install the EA Downloader again
5) It should override the first install
6) Launch BF 2142

(do not reinstall the patch after reinstalling the downloader)

PS: Please don't open topics twice, once in the Troubleshooting section would have been enough.

Hey,
Thanks alot, and sorry about threading twice. It worked great. BUT now i have a new problem. After i stat the game a join a server. 10 seconds after joining the server and spawning the game closes. I have the badest luck with these games. If you have any ideas just shoot them my way.

PS: I have tried turing off the firewall and all internet security, and nothing.

Here's what a buddy of mine posted on a different Forum:

So you got the game. Loaded the patch and now you can only play 5 to 10 minutes before the game kicks you out the main login screen.

Downloading the things below may help.

1. Microsoft released an update hotfix to fix THEIR issue, yes they admitted it was their issue. KB917422 Security Update Hotfix

2. Punkbuster may NOT be updating properly, which it hasn't been in most cases. To check go to your CProgram Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\pb\htm folder to see if there are any .htm files in there. If that folder does NOT contain 2 files then you might want to follow This Walkthrough on how to update the files manually.

I was running the game fine for about 2 weeks and then all of the sudden it just wouldnt start, no error message, no splash screen no video no nothing, it just doesnt start. I look in the task manager and the BF2142Pace.exe loads up for a few seconds and then just dissapears. Any ideas?

I have been having the exact same error for two days now. I un/re-installed both BF2142 and EA Link with no success. If you find the fix, please post it.

2 month old computer, no spyware/addware. cant imagine that reformating would be a permanent fix.

I was thinking it might be a driver issue, but what really confused me was that I had the game running fine and without any changes to the system (at least no intended changes: no new programs, updates etc.) the game just stopped running when I tried to start it up..

I'm trying for a work around to your problem..cause noone should pay to download and suddenly have BF2142 not even try and start.

Here are some suggestions before suing EA to have to re-format your system.

1.Depending on what you are clicking on to start BF2142..try an alternate method. Even going so far as going into C:/Electronic Arts/BF2142.
The game may not be accessing the right file. Probably not the case.
Try creating new desktop BF2142 that accesses the exe of the game? You may have to stear it with the correct parameters.

2.Temporarily disable every freaking adware, virus program, see if you can fire up the game afterwards.

3. Did you carefully follow the before mentioned EA solution to the letter? Try that fix again.

4. Do you have any emulating software active? (cd clone type programs).
DICE/EA is known to be George Orwell "1984" after the update patch... about that type of software...no matter how legit it is.

5. Post back here (other than having to re-format) how you got the game going! For others to benifit.

HELP 2. I bought a second copy of BF2 and it will not load as we have 2 comp's for gaming. The install window appears, I click install and it crashes to desktop. I have tried every suggestion from BF2 help. I even copied the game to my c drive and it reacts the same way.
Radeon 9600
AMD Athlon XP 2800
512mb ddr-sdram

Drivers all updated, shut every background program that I can but still the same. I am able to load game on another comp so I know the game is ok. Any suggestions anyone? Thanks,

I've tryed all theese things now... Still dosn't work
The game was running fine for 2 weeks, then suddenly when i try to launch the game, nothing happens, nothing at all, and no errors. I don't remember that i've done anything with the computer form when it worked, to not working, not even installing new software.

Here is what i've tryed:
I've tryed starting the game from Comrade, EA-Link, normal shortcut, and the exe's in BF2142 folder.
Following the "fix" a few posts up.
I've unstalled EA link , and reinstalled.
I've uninstalled the game, EA-Link & Comrade, and reinstalled
Shutting down all applications in windows that is not absolutly necesary for the computer to run.
I've tryed to uninstall Daemon tools (emulation software)
Reinstalling latest drivers for all my hardware

1. Go to you game directory
2. Go to Battlefield2142Pace.exe Properties
3. Enable compatibility for Windows 2000
4. Launch the game, don't bother playing though, just quit right away.
5. Disable compatibility mode.

After spending 1.5hrs on this stupid problem i found this on the official forums. It seems really redundant, but its the only thing that worked for me.

I tryed that too, didn't work.
But as it says in the original thread too, it works for some, and not for others. So it's defenently worth a try!

I reformatted my computer today, used a whole day trying to fix it without luck. After format it worked like a charm

i dont know if i need to register online or i could play offline-single player or it's completly online-multiplayer game??????my question is can i play single player????and what can i do about profile how can i skip registration and can i skip it?????????answer as fast as you can i'w watched intro and i couldn't live without it!!!!!!!

everytime the autorun turns on and i press install it just closes the install immediately (i think its called splashing to desktop)

Sorry buddy, but you HAVE to register to play online and even offline. I know it is kinda stupid.
