The 2142 Beta is an Alpha build IMO

From playing it for awhile, and reading the feedback forums, this is no beta build.

At best it's a cross between an alpha and a beta build. EA chose to call it
a beta build. Actually...its a pre-beta.

OK...back to (playing-bug reporting) working for EA for free...that is..if it lasts more than a minute before CTD.

Alpha = Not all content in yet.

Beta = Content in, full o bugs though.

From what I have heard it seems all the major content is already in.

Although it only contains 1 map, and 1 mode - so it's not really all the content.

FilePlanet has a forum that EA links to when you are accepted as a beta tester. When you recieve your key..you get an email password to the BF2142 beta forums. It's not even that sophisticated a password...it's same for all.

Let me wake you all up. It's basically a forum run with an unsophisitcated forum engine. The same type lamer forum engine used for all GameSpy Forums.

GameSpy forums are out of date...simplistic..stupid.

You post a question or submit a reply...and in about one hour...it's buried so far back you can't even find your post.
Try and do a "Search" for what your were looking for or submitted...and you'll get "No such search results found."

Better yet...try and just "search" by posters name (your own to see what replies)..you'll get "there were no results to your search." Yet...that forum says you can do such a Search. *sigh*

My thoughts:

Open up a Beta 2142 forum here and I doubt any forum ppl here will get jealous.
I'm sure you won't get any legal flak about doing so.
Posting Beta 2142 feedback to FilePlanet forums is so rediculous now. 20,000 post/replies all jumbled...out of order. It's a complet joke...as it always was.

Suppose I give out the so called "beta user only" password to FilePlanets Beta 2142 forums?
It's not a secret forum or special place. It's just a whirlwind of ppl posting there after having gotten
the beta of BF2142. Big deal. betafp_bf2142. There! A gazillion posts a day there.

Posts just as stupid and normal as any lame GameSpy Forum. Engine and all.

Mrhahn..edit this if you must...but really...It's not a "special" FilePlanet forum. It's everyday type.

If you have a fileplanet subscriber's account, do it on fileplanet.com. If not, you have to participate in a raffle, such as on battlefieldpodcast.com or planetbattlefield.com.

Unfortunately, EA decided to not give the beta out for free yet. I hope that is still to come.

An open public beta will be released when a newer version of the beta is released and all the major bugs are fixed. Until that time, do not post information about the beta. It is a closed beta and we intend to follow EA's rules on this one.

I like the new BF2142..but have some things to say.

DICE and all other great first timers of cool games are starting to piss me off now.
This is not revealing any copywrited material.
It's a statement of affairs about how game developers create a cool game like BF1942 and
it all goes to hell.

DICE released a relatively bug free BF1942 that required minor patches for gameplay. Hugely succesfull game.
This started the usual trend of a game developer releasing a hugely popular game...to meet publisher expectations (EA) in order for that Publisher to meet quarterly profit expectations to shareholders..in order for said publisher to fork out big cash to the developer for their next title. That title was BF2.

BF2 was released way too soon and so far needs a critical new patch, a full 14 months after it was released.

Now the same trend continues with BF2142. Only now...DICE has ingeniously recruited the public. Mind you...not to make a game that's complete when released (with beta participation)...but rather to release the game early WITH our help!

Which brings me to the point of this reply post.
We all got Beta1 and it had bugs...it was cool..but buggy as hell.
Not a problem.

Now DICE releases BETA2 2142 and it's got some better eye candy and sound improvements..but it's almost unplayable. ALSO! The BETA2 is so bad that there are 45 empty servers. That's right...noones playing. 54 servers that are 0/32.

I posted in the beta forums that I was going back to BETA1 and uninstalling BETA2 and playing on BETA1 servers...there are 12 left and they are packed full.
Some replies I got were..."There will be no Beta1 servers much longer".
I replied...what Beta 2 client 0/32 server do you suggest I join?

But still, having played the Beta now I'm not terribly impressed. Sure its fun but with adverts, the same engine and £30? I don't know if its that fun.
