This is the new sniper unlock for those of you who don't know. Now according to the site that NavalLord gracious posted on another thread, it says that the L96 has nearly the same properties as the M24 and M95. (This site also says that the M95 has the same deviation as the M24, which I disagree with, but thats another issue). At any rate, is the L96 an improvement, or is it simply a new look for the same weapon. I haven't been able to get it myself to try it out since my account is stuck on 0% left until next rank, but if anyone else has, I'm all ears (or eyes as the case may be).
Here's the site: http://wiki.bf2s.com/weapons/comparison

The L96 is much better. With the other sniper rifles it seemed about a 20% chance I'd hit anything, even when I let the sights "settle".
I get a distinct feeling of better accuracy with the L96.

The thing is unlocks aren't meant to be an improvement, they are meant to be another option. Truly I would like to use that when MEC, since i don't like their auto sniper.

Yeah it's just another option.
I'd break it down like this: M24 - High accuracy, optimum performance but no "power" to penetrate. Also only available to US M95 - Lower accuracy. slow shooting, penetration "power" Available to everyone SVD and T88 - fast, weak, medium accuracy. no power to penetrate. MEC and PLA have to use this L96 - Alternative for when you can't get M24. Same traits as M24 but possibly more accurate. Great if you love sniping but play MEC/PLA alot. |

In real life its highly accurate to about 1100 meters (max range on a good day is around 1200 meters) with good penertration up to around 900 - 1000 meters. Fires a standard 7.62mm nato round, has low recoil for its power and is very quick to reload and change mags. Should have the same stopping power of the M24 really. I haven't used it in game yet but when I do it seems I'm going to disappointed.
