Default Official "your thoughts on the new BF2 1.2 patch"

Well, I know some of you have already installed and played the new patch. I'm at work and need details! Post your thoughts, questions, comments and jibberish about the new patch v1.2! Also what did you vote for on the poll and why? If you voted "I hate it" why do you hate it....you get the point! Is there anything you would like EA and DICE to know about the new patch? Please keep it based on the patch only

Please note: If you have installed the 1.2 patch to core Battlefield 2 and then installed Battlefield 2: Special Forces, you will probably need to re-apply the 1.2 patch again to be able to play on 1.2 Servers.

Hmmm. My download from this site was fast enough. It took the time to finish a thank-you note on another string here. However, I was just at Total Battlefield 2 site. There I found two complaints that their screens generated a giant mouse pointer on a black screen, then crashed.

The threads were kind of confusing. Some people rename the BF 2 executable to hide it from their video card software...it's said the game runs "faster" that way. Anyway, it was unclear from there whether this caused the crashes, or not.

I hate to say this, but I'm tempted not to be the guinea pig on this one. If I go ahead and install, and lose my whatever keeps the game running, y'all would appreciate the pioneering spirit, RIGHT?

Okay, I'm going in. My mother used to tell me about the thin line between bravery and stupidity.

EDIT: Whew. You get blowed up just as good as before! He's right (below) the support weapon is more dead-on. The chopper nerf worked. I used the PKM and got smoke from a Cobra and a Blackhawk with a few good bursts. They went back for repairs. (Wake Island) I tried to grab the AA emplacement near the Chinese scanner, but the air support was pretty sensitive about that gun being used. That told me it probably worked well enough. I've yet to see. The drone was there, eerie that was. It has no heat signature, so I couldn't zap it (Oman - AA on the western beach post).

You sure can't fire hopping anymore. Took more time to go prone, like normal, I guess, judging from football drills where you had to drop, then jump up. Seemed more like that.

You click "join server" and the screen freezes with no cursor. No problem with that, but I thought I'd crashed at first. The server pings are still inaccurate. I clicked a list of servers IT said were pinging at 391. When I highlighted them they went down to; 62, 140, 141 and 172. I signed onto a server IT said pinged at 171, and got booted for a high ping of 142. (I thought I averaged 150). It did link to the server faster.

I played a German server, 81.3.59.102: 33010 (Tactical Elite Germany http://www.tegclan.de) and came in with no unlocks. I tried to punch out and rejoin, but the server filled up and I couldn't get back in.

The big pop-up ad for Euro-ex was still there, only now it has this tacky white rectangle with "ENGLISH" in big black letters. Ew. Didn't they look at it first?

THEN, I had chores to do, so I went offline. This is the first time I played since I reformatted, reinstalled everything including SF w/patch. Took no time to download the new patch from this site (thanks again.) Troublefree installation. TOO MANY Karkand/Mashtuur/Wake Island ONLY servers out there to find one that met all my criteria; ping at about 150, 64 player almost full, playing full range of maps...getting skinny out there.

Initial thoughts.

Support weapons, very powerful now, a rival for the assault weapons.

MP7, nerfed.

N00b t00b, just as bad, only with slightly more range between the encounters.

I think it would have been nice for them to just come out with it and tell us when it was being released instead of the cloak and dagger carry on.

I also think it would be better if they didn't blatenly lie about things, such as saying they don't know the day or time when it'll be released, 2 hours before its out, or saying the first patch out was a beta, when it appears to be the same size, same md5 hash, and plays on the same servers as the 'official' patch

but probably not the comments on the patch you were looking

They really didnt want the servers swampped all at once...think about it. It would kill the bandwidth if everyone knew exactly when the release was. "Leaks" are so called slow hand outs for the patch.

All them people down ther look like ants! I got 2 minutes to go, but i am a bit worried aboot the UAV. I think it will be rendered useless after this.

BTW, did any of you notice the new patch screen that pops up and show the progress patching. I didn't use to get that, i like it.

Nah, UAV's fine.

You can shoot it down, and the uav will stop, however if shot your trailer seems to be instantly recharged allowing you to place another instantly.

was a bit worried about that myself, would have rendered having to go into an enemy base to destroy it pointless though if shooting it had had the same effect as blowing the trailer

Yeah, I just tried it on Karkand. It was too damn bright to even see the thing.

I love this. The vote's a three-way split, and no one seems to need a doctor...or, wants to ADMIT it. Muhahahaha!

I have noticed a lot of new ranks, that I never had seen before. But knew they were coming

I have a negative teamscore because of those brain surgeons who run in front of apcs when i'm going full speed.

*Also note on UBAR they have found the rank requirements*

JETS IN 1.2

ok, ok, i understand having a better AA system for u grunts out there, but did they have to go and tweak with the jets missle systems as well! i for one had no problem with using my jet to get air to air kills, but with the new patch, it takes all competition out of air battles. now some n00b could hop in a jet and shoot down a seasoned vet with ease.

dogfighting was my favorite thing to do in BF2, now they have gone and made it to easy for me, or too easy for my enemy. its basically first shot wins. (WHICH IS NO COMPETITION AT ALL!)

i thot they wanted to make life better for u grunts, NOT MISERABLE FOR US PILOTS! they could have at least thought about all the 1v1 and 2v2 jet leagues out there and not fucked with our missles (i could care less about the ground AA). now all the leagues i play in will either be boring as hell with no competition, or we will have to revert back to 1.12 for our air battles.

as for the AA, it has already shot me down more in 1 night than in a weeks worth of flying, and im ok with that, because i still went 80-13 my first round

but dd they HAVE to fuck with the jets missles.

Sorry. That point wasn't lost on me. I was going to address it, but it slipped my mind. As you can read on the other string, I criticize pilots for NOT engaging enemy air assets. Two things "you" have to deal with are; your heads-up display doesn't show where enemy jets are, when they do actually; your missiles suck - they did before, now they apparently suck worse. I'm not happy to hear this, and I sympathize.

I fly, too. I dogfight as a rule, because I see my role as keeping their air off my team's back. I get a good missile lock, fire, and the enemy isn't even evading and the thing misses. I understand the thing needs a one-second lock, but even that doesn't seem to help. I mainly rely on the gun, and use missiles only when the enemy's engine fills the screen. When a missile hits, I'm usually surprised. Air to air missiles have nothing to do with what's happening on the ground. Hell, to drop a stationary chopper you have to kiss the damned thing.

You're right. Sorry. You have to understand the groundpounders are happy to know there is some respite from that rain of cluster bombs.

Anyone else notice that TV guided missiles have been greatly reduced damage wise? It now takes more than one to kill any type of vehicle. Before it took one missile to kill a tank, but yesterday I fired one at a tank and it didn't blow up, so I assumed I had missed it. Then I fired one at a Hummer and got a direct hit, but it didn't blow up. What is up with this? I never though the TV guided missiles were over powered because they wern't used a whole lot. They have a limited directional range from where they can be fired, so you can only hit stuff directly infront of you, provided the chopper/plane is stable.

If the TV missles have been nerfed then it can only be a good thing. I've been on too many servers where a attack chopper flys as high as it can and spins.. letting off a TV every time one loads and destroying vehichles, planes, helicopters with no chance of being shot down
