Just a thought but I realized that the engy class is a far cry from the murder machine that it used to be in 1942.
I used to LOVE being engy but I often find myself being medic or sniper or support gunner and avoiding engy. 1) Shotguns. No. They are great for very close quarters but lets face it. If you're an engy and you arent 5 ft from your enemy, you may as well surrender. 2) No one appreciates them. "STUPID NOOB DONT LAY MINES HERE!" "Thanks for keeping me from getting blown away by a buttefly after that tank engagement. Now I'm going to drive off and leave you behind to get raped by spec-ops" 3) They are very vulnerable to just about everything. They dont have explosives... What happened there EA? 4) Wow, an MP-7? Why don't I just throw rocks? Gifve me better guns! Something that can actually HIT things! Just a general feeling that engy is just not played as much anymore and very gimped. Anyone else feel this way? Am I just not playing right? |

yeah but thats what he's saying. Engys used to be that one class that you could take out goons and tanks with. Headshot a man with your no4 and expack that tank. their healing bonus is their main strength I'd say.

About the only use for engineers is for vehicle drives. You can hop out and fix your junk or pull up and fix someone elses. Other than that... pretty useless.

The Engie in BF1942 was critical for repairing ship or laying mines at maps like Omaha and Market Garden and Battle of the Bulge map.
And you could still rank up decent points as an engie in BF1942. In BF2, Engie is still usefull as hell, but only in the context as a team player. You won't advance much in rankings or medals playing engie all the time. Nor is it as sexy a class of player. The gun to defend is useless, as many have posted. Engie is still good in BF2 if you plan to play mostly defend or repair your own tanks and apc's. A team player type speciality, and I'm glad to have engies on my team. Otherwise, it's just above Sniper Class as least popular type weapon class in BF2. |

Engys are useful to a team but they just haven't got the point-scoring power of the death or glory guys. Where's the incentive? I guess if you're going to be an Engy, its best to get inside a vehicle with some real fire power.

I love the support class, but the weapons suck. Also I think the kit is just missing something. I think the class needs c4. Just that little something extra to make it worth playing engy.
I also love supply class, but the weapons just suck. I think EA could have made this class a little beter. I guess we will have to wait for the mods to make things beter.

The one thing that would return the Engy class to its former glory would be to take out the team damage given by the mines. If mines didn't kill your own friendlies all the time, people might consider using mines and using the engineer class.
