Head shots in Bf1942 were king, now its more disatisfying than satisfying. I recently started playing the sniper kit to balance out some of Kill to Death ratio stats with the sniper. Needless to say I have a positive ratio now, but I have noticed how misused this kit really is. As has been mentioned, most people just camp somewhere and take out about 5 guys in an entire round. When I used the kit, I was averaging 18 kills per round, without any vehicles, and had about 5 flag caps as well. If you use the kit properly, you can actually be up in the top tiers on the stat boards, you just have to move around and find new targets to do so. (Note, this is assuming you have a decent ping below the 100's, anything above a 100 ping will effectively making sniping worthless)
Another thing I thought I would mention was the team point posiblilties with the snipers. Now I know the kit is nerfed, but use that to your advantage. Just take pot shots at every guy you see and the kill damage assists start racking up. Firing into and artillaried zone is always helpful in this area. One shot kills only seem to occur when the enemy soldier has injured himself already. I commonly aim for soldiers who have jumped of roofs or ledges. The minor damage they do to themselves makes the difference when the bullet makes contact.

Random ping does have a point there.
One of the reasons snipers appear so weak and under rated are the way they are used. Sitting in one place shooting for a whole map is not going to be very effective. If the sniper moves with a sqaud and hangs back giving cover they can work very well. Like in all of BF2 team work is how to be effective. |

With all the numerous tops of structures for snipers to get to, DICE has the
effective damage of snipers correct. I still think it's an ineffective class in BF2 no matter how good and how many there are. It was added for the sake of ppl who like that kind of action. All you have to do at a flag is move around a little and you'll cap flag before a sniper does you in. Shifting gears... Speaking of teammates lying prone...too many Support Class do that too. When going for a flag...very few of my comrades lying on their belly the entire map have aided me getting the dirty work done of getting to the flag and capping it. They're almost as helpfull as snipers to me. :P I admit to getting cut down a lot by that class running to flag, it's still an effective defensive weapon. However, when you have too many guys on your team content to lie prone the entire map...flags don't get taken back/ capped. Team loses. I don't know about you guys...but I've been seeing a lot of players on their belly lately ( I know weapon is more effective that way). |

Unfortunately its not just the kill fanatics who just lie around, its often everyone. I guess noob could be a good term for them, though they may have played for sometime now. I often find myself leading my squad of 3 to every flag on the map, while dozens of squads will just sit in one area waiting to ambush the enemy. The probelm is, the enemy will never appear to be ambushed, they have moved on. I see this alot in Karkand, you'll have one squad leader who takes the tank, no squad members are ever near him, and you have one squad who gets in the transport doing the dirty work of capping flags. Every other squad on the team, usually composed of snipers/assault, camps the first flag, thinking that the Americans will come there continuously throughout entire round. The choke point strategy will work at the beginning, but when all the other flags are taken, the snipers need to change to something more useful, like medics or antitank. It all boils down to the sniper mentality, like you guys have mentioned. No matter what kit they use, some people are just snipers at heart; the could have a could be PKM or a Jackhammer or a piss-into-the-wind L85, no matter what weapon or kit, they will always just sit there waiting for the action to come to them.
The great thing is, these are kind of guys we get to bring the action to, "action" referring to a blade to the back of the head. These "sniper" personalities are terrible to have as teammates, but great to have as opponents, more knife kills for everyone...

Random...the worst thing about squad leaders in Karkaand is this.
MEC. Squad leaders are obsessed with staying at the first flag area nearest US base EVEN WHEN 2 FLAGS of our back MEC base has been taken over. What can you do about lamer squad leaders? I at least type during game that OUR BACK BASE HAVE BEEN TAKE OVER. US. When a gutsy group or individual caps far away flag...squad leader lamers just go on ignoring their map. What can you do about that? I quickly type in CAPS...GET HERE SQUAD LEADERS! They are too lame to even read what's being typed on the damn screen let alone looking at their map to see a flag was just capped. |

I love to be a sniper but concealment is insainely hard to mantain. That camo that you wear isnt worth crap if you arent in a bush or in the forest.
Plus the red name tag that apears over your head when some one randomly puts their crosshairs over you is a sore thumb. Then when you get a kill you have to move b/c the camera goes to the killer. |

I've effectively used the sniper kit to stop advancing troops in combination with a support gunner. Any one that wants to get into a position to attack my gunner, gets popped by me and vice versa. Up until the point where the tank rolls in...
Snipers are a valuable class in the right hands. |

Though it is best to move after you kill someone cause you know they're gonna get after your ass in 15 seconds.

I play engineer and drive armor. If you see AT mines, they're MINE. If you see two tanks repairing each other while battling it OUT....yeah, look out! I don't care how I'm rated as an engineer. Underestimate me all you like. You know what? Just last night, some SNIPER dude saw me standing there with my Shotty, HE decides he'll KNIFE me. Apparently he didn't think my gun was much use....now he does. BOOM BOOM BOOM. I loved it. A well ventilated knife holder. Just what I needed in my kitchen.

The most fun thing thing to do as a sniper is using the M95 to snipe someone out of a heli. Those heli whores think they are so great but when they hover... BANG BANG... that pilot didn't know what hit him. That heli has a 20 or 50 foot drop... not enough for the gunner to save it. (or the gunner bails and kill him on the way down).

I dont see the sniper being under aprreciated...I see a lot of snipers and man the good ones will make your game experince shear hell... Until you counter them...
The sniper does work best when working with a squad especially if the sniper is SL and is hanging back out of harms way providing cover fire and a close spawn point... |

Yeah, here I am in my M-1 Abrams just shakin' in my boots! A guy...with a scope...and a bolt action...EEK! I like to set off claymores, too. There's this "DING" like I'm snapping open my Zippo. I derive even more pleasure watching a sniper zipping away to his favorite hiding spot, all of which are pretty much known by now, in a jeep...running over one of my AT mines. They just FLY up in the air like Guille-suited sparrows.
