Some guys started an online petition for DICE to release the BF 2 SDK for modders.
Although I dont believe it will achieve anything theres no harm in signing it here: http://www.petitiononline.com/BF2SDK/petition.html

The fact that they are not releasing an SDK could be taken as good news. It could mean that there's still a future for the BF franchise. I was figuring that if this is the last release in the series because of the by-out from EA, then they wouldn't care and just release it.
Then again, maybe they just want to proctect the engine.

Yup, that basicly it !
If you look at all the BF Mods out there, they all follow the same basic mechanics. You can change the maps, the vehicles, the skins, the weapon codes etc etc. just as many Mods have show. But the actual game-play will always remian the same. BF and Mods will always be about capping flags of some kind even if you can trick the system sometimes. Often modders have to tricks the engine to make it do what they want or to include specific features that are unintended by BF. Now if you look at Half-Life, you will see that lots of mods have very different game-play mechanics. The modders of Half-Life could programm lots and lots of different game-types since they had access to the core code that is revealed through an SDK. And SDK allows you to alter the core code of the game, while the MDK only allows you to change certain aspects of the game. Now BF 2 will probably have a powerfull MDK allowing modders to do way more than in previous BF games, yet they still won´t have access to the core code and so probably most BF 2 mods will be about capping flags of some kind aswell.

Sorry to interrupt guys. I'm not much of a modder so I need to know, what is the difference between the SDK and MDT?
