It won't be pay to play. There is a point upgrade system in the game.

I know that nothing has been stated as of yet from Dice that this will be a pay-to-play game, but it's still early and no one knows what the final word will be by the time the game goes gold.
I have had those same concerns as well because most role playing games that have a persistant world requires constant running servers to maintain them which are usually kept by the people who created the game.
The fact that this game retains an individuals ranking means that those stats must be constantly kept and updated. I don't know how that can be done by those who set themselves up as servers to play for a certain length of time then quit.
It could be that Dice will provide those servers without charge, but I highly doubt that.
By the way, how-do everybody, it's -WOODY- ( I lost my minus's "- -" )

You would only need a little list of numbers froe each player. Just a few kilobytes of space. 1 RAID hardrive will do the job (OK maby 10)

Hey thanks for the welcome guys, makes me feel a little better. Yep, this year has really been a tough one. I don't know whether to run though the streets naked or shoot myself.

Woody - welcome back! I think I got here about the time you left...sorry to hear about your misfortunes, and best of luck. Things really will get better...

BTW, sanity is highly overrated. As long as you APPEAR sane, society will never know the difference - unless you get careless with the bodies...

Default MELEE! woot!

They most likely won't make anyone pay for that game. FPS's usually don't require monthly payment, plus, if Dice DID make it pay, I'd burn thier headquarters to the ground.

I'm back!

I <3 WOODY!!!

I'm sure EA will keep up the server(s) for the stat tracking. They had a ton of gameplay servers up for Battlefield 1942 before. I'm not sure if they still do though.

Bring back the old BFN days, BFN 1.0. Not too many of us left.

Oh hey Mav, it's been a while eh? I see that you belong to -Rav- now. I'm starting to think that the reason CJ Mello was hanging around in our forum was to slowly nudge us over to his clan.
Soon he'll infiltrate other clan forums and slowly work on them too. Soon there will be only one huge, gigantic -Rav- clan left and there wont be any other clans to match against.......Resistance is futile, LOL.

Just kiddin, I've been tempted a time or two to go try out with them. They're a great group of guys. I noticed your rank too, Lieutenant Colonel!! Is there any thing higher?

Lol, probably. Yea, I've been haning around here, I added you back to the "old" bfn forums, nothing really new there. I got to RAV for BFV, but college has really taken over, and don't have too much time for gaming. Good to have you back, lots of the old guys quit.

Hey, hey. I saw -WOODY- first!

Pay-to-play sucks, but I don't think they'll do it. EA has never done that type of stuff before, why start now? Plus, the only games that cost to play online are MMORPGs, and u can only play them online.

Pay-to-play is required for MMORPGs in order to host the huge worlds and vast number of players featured in an MMORPG.

This is not the case in BF2 as it will be a regular programm that can be hosted by any apropriote server out there. Therefor pay-to-play is not an issue.
