Default Game Stutter

Hi, I don't know if anyone else is having this problem but since patch 1.30 -1.31 patches I seem to get ocsional stutter in game it's like it drops a couple of frames everynow and again.

Is it a bug or is it my rig.

Spec

1.3 t bird
geo 4 ti4200
I-will motherboard
Sonic fury sound card
Windows xp pro.

I have played around with my sound settings constantly and still cannot solve this problem.

I'm sure this problem is to do with sound anyone help me please?

Joe.

J,

I don't know if it's the same problem that I had or not. But mine used to do a quick pause every 3 seconds or so. I have a P4 2.8ghz, ATI 9700, 1gb ddr memory, Winxp pro. To fix this, I had to go into my video card settings in windows and move the "Hardware Acceleration" down one notch. That fixed it. Try it. Hope it helps.

Your machine is not underpowered, I run it great on a similar machine, 1.3 Duron and a 4200, although you didn't say how much RAM you had, if it ran ok before then the solution below might help.

I would try a different set of 4-in1 drivers, and not necessarily the newest ones.

Maybe it is they that don't like the patch. Does sound like the kind of thing they would cause, runs great apart from the odd glitch.

Give it a shot.

I was suffering severe lag after the 1.31 patch. I had followed the readme about the sound settings to try, which was the only thing I had changed from 1.3. I went back to the lesser settings and that seems to have solved my problem. Seems that sound is more of a weakness in this game then a lower level video card, as long as it's adequate.

Alright Joe,

Well RAM clearly isn't a problem. I have tried to find out which version I have but the drivers don't seem to tell me which 4-in-1 I am now using. But what I can tell you is that it's definitely not higher than 4.40. I used 4.43 but they were much crapper than the 4.32, 4.37 or 4.40. With 4-in-1s, later drivers are designed more for the modern motherboards and not the KT133 sort of dinosaurs we are using. That said, our dinosaurs should be capable of running this game. To us, Hyperion drivers should be treated as the first four letters of their name, because they probably wouldn't give us a significant performance increase. A KT400 owner might well benefit from them.

I would just experiment with all the drivers from 4.32 to 4.40.
