Default Expert pilots: please help with joystick setup

My problem is with setting the "Roll left/right".

I used to use the rt and left arrows on the keyboard for rolling. That works fine.

The only problem that causes is that to turn left/right (bank) during a dogfight...it is VERY slow. It is much faster using a joystick.

But if I use the joystick, I am constantly weaving like a drunk and have no control over the plane. I can't strafe, I can't bomb. The above setup shows how I have it now and it doesn't work well for me.

So, how can I bank faster but still be able to fly without weaving and losing control?

Thanks!

PS: Logitech Wingman Extreme 3D Digital.

Maybe you should adjust the dead zone in your joystick drivers so it's a little bigger so you have some leeway. Then you won't be wobbling when you're just trying to fly straight. Otherwise I'd just say reduce the joystick sensitivity a bit. You must eliminate the keyboard altogether... BTW my joystick assignment is pretty much the same as yours as far as axis go, though I have rudder controls assigned to the twist axis on my joystick. Rudder controls are essential for accuracy IMO.

I have the original wingman force (the one with 5 additional buttons for your left hand) anyway... what I recommend is have primary be your main gun and a thumb button be your bomb button.

RUDDER IS ABSOLUTLY ESSENTIAL so either have your stick rotate (if you have it) or two easily reached buttons do your rudder left/right.

Here's something that tooke me a while to figure out. Assign an easily accessible button to leave vehicle and another button to parachute. I can't tell you how many times I hit eject and scrambled to hit the 9 key on the keyboard, dropping the honkin' huge joystick and going splat at the same time.

Thanks for the reply. Could I please request that you post a screenshot of your controller setup?

Thanks!

Even though this wont help you calibrate your joystick the way you want it, it might help others that are looking for something a little easier then a full throttle/rudder joystick setup, and much cheaper.

Radio Shack and I'm sure others make an PSX to USB adapter so you can use your psx controllers with a pc. I JUST discovered this little gem, and has been wonderfull, but im sure it has been around forever and this is old news.

It has worked wonders though, can cram everything on to it, mouse look, rudders, ext view ect, and best of all, your so used to using it its natural and takes up a very small footprint on your desk.

when you are flying when you turn with the mouse like if you are turning left use the right rudder key and if you are turning right use the left rudder key this will pull your plane right up on its side and you can make a very sharp and fast turn.
just try it, it works
