Default Is this cheating? Being sniped in cockpit while flying?

OK, I thought I'd ask here because another thread got me thinking on this. Not to long ago, a single player had sniped me 2x on one map, Gazla, while I was flying a Spitfire. These were single headshots that killed me when I was at full health.

Additionally, I was flying fast and at about medium height, say 750ft off the ground. I asked the guy if he was cheating, (nicely, mind you) and he said no, but just lead the plane.

Honestly, I didn't believe him, not because I'm an incredible pilot, I'm not bad, but doing it twice on the same map while I was flying a spit at full speed, just seemed, well, impossible.

Since then I've tried to duplicate those shots and have never been able to. So what do you guys think? Has anyone here made shots like these? Sniping a pilot from a plane as he / she flew at full speed? (Again, not taxiing)

If so, HOW DID YOU DO IT?!!

If you have a screenshot of such a kill, I'd love to see it.

Thanks all.

i have only done this once with a k98 on iwo jima... i was on top of the mountain repairing some flak when i see a corsair comming right for me, i paniced and instead of getting into the flak cannon i took a shot just as the plane was comming to kill me... killed the pilot and the plane crashed harmlessly into the side of the mountain...

Hmmm...I know there is an accuracy cheat out there apparently...but I guess I'll never know.

This same guy did it to another person on the map as well. So that 3x he did it. Really seems impossible to do without a cheat.

More then twice is lucky shooting. I've sniped taxiing pilots and have heard of people killing pilots in the air before. To do it as a sniper is hard but trying to play the role of AA with a scout well thats a different story.

I'd be more on the side of just his good luck and you having bad luck that time. I wouldn't be suprised that if you found a nice spot and just tried it over and over you might get good at it. If he said he was leading you I dunno. It is possible to kill a pilot with one shot I've done it on the ground.

well think about it, when ur being shot at, pretty much the only thin showing the the glass of ur cockpit(spelling lol) is ur head, with a sniper shooting into the glass, ur almost garanteed(spelling mabey) to die in one shot.

1.2 made some weird changes to the way that pilots / planes take damage. If there is an enemy plane shooting at me, sometimes my plane will take damage but quite often I will die on the first or second shot. I know the people I am playing with are not cheating.

The only think I can think of is that it is either random, or there is a 'glitch' in the 1.2 plane model that puts holes where they shouldn't be - like the holes on the carrier in Coral Sea.

IMO the sniper in your story was probably taking pot shots at planes the whole game. His 3 kills were just lucky.

Yeah i have to agree that the patch changed some things for pilots. I myself have been killed while flying and the plane survived. Never been sniped though.

Most likely cheating. I had a guy kill me 6 times in a row from large distances, every shot he made would be a headshot and he kept doing it over and over again.

It is just a shame that we lack something like CS-GUARD for counter-strike which scans all players hard drives upon entering a server and if it detects a known cheat (which they keep a up to date list of all the cheats) it boots and bans the player.

Cheaters are scum, and I wish them nothing but misery in their pitiful lives.

Perhaps if EA did something like what vALVE does and totally erases the cheaters CD key and disallows them access to ANY server, then people would think twice about cheating. All they have to do is put it in the End user liscense agreement that you agree not to cheat while online and if you do, poof you no longer are welcome to play BF42 anywhere whatsoever. But I fear EA does not have the balls for something like that, face it EA sucks. Allways has allways will.

After all they did whitewash world war 2 because they did not want to offend anyone by including the historicly accurate German flags. Thank god someone else saw fit to add them in the excellent merciless add-ons.
this however is off topic, it does show how lame EA is though.

regards

Well the only time I killed a pilot is when he was on his roll out. It was with K98. I was like "wow" he was like H4x0r then he said that the planes should be stronger then that. Then I had to explain that aircraft aren't all that strong from bullets. I been in the aviation for almost 16 yrs. I have seen birds take out wings... So a bullet is going to slice through 032 sheet metal like butter. So he went back to his original statement "h4x0r"

It's not a cheat at all. I've noticed that shooting a pilot out of a cockpit, as well as drivers of jeeps has become very easy since the new patch. I make it a point to shoot at the plane cockpit now. I've done it many times, and many times it has ended up saving my life as well! Just a lil balance tweak they must have added..

At the last LAN I went to I got taken out by a potshot K98 shot from 100 yards. :/ And sometimes I feel I die too fast in a dogfight, especially if they approach me from the side. But it's all good in the end, I've taken out my share of pilot without killing their aircraft. It's not a bug, it's a feature!

It's perfectly possible to kill someone when they are in a plane. I myself even did it with the medic's machine gun once. It's all about hitting the right place I assume...

I've killed over flying pilots in cockpit with my Bar1918 or my STG44.
I know this because their planes crashed while intact.
Did you bother to look at your screen afterwards and see just what
player/weapon killed you? Sniping a pilot in flight? Must have been
a one in a thousand to do that. Seldom do snipers kill moving
targets in one shot . Situation has to be just right. Coming directly at ya.
Could happen. Check to see who and what weapon killed ya.

It's possible, but extremely hard. If same guy snipes u while flying, I could be quite sure he's cheating... but you'd just have to prove it.

K thanks eveyone for the reply. It could be I just had to adjust from 1.1 to 1.2. To be clear these snipes happend it 1.2.

It probablly wasn't a cheat, just an incredible shot.

Since 1.2 when I dog fight I try and aim more for the cockit now than the engine, depending on the angle of attack. (like on his six for example).

Also for the record, he sniped me with the german sniper rifle, the K98, I believe it's called.
