My main joy in BF1942 is going up in a fighter and ignoring ground targets and instead shooting down all airborne enemies. Because of this I would like to see air bias maps.
Perhaps something like a battle of britain scenario - with everyone spawning in an aircraft and anyone who ejects respawns. I know I could easily play IL2 if I wanted to do this - but BF1942s arcade style air combat is a nice alternative now and again. The following extra hardware would be nice to see to make the game more interesting for other prop heads. - A few more planes RAF: Hurricane (must have for Africa) Mosquito (Everyones favourite) USAAF: P38 Lightning P47 Thunderbolt (perhaps with ground attack rockets?) Luftwaffe: FW190 HS129 (nice big tank buster) VVS: LA5FN (better than a shoddy Yak) IL2 Sturmovik (Have to have one of these) JNAF: No more naval aircraft! Anti-aircraft vehicles: Flakpanzers Wirbelwinds Or something like that! |

umm, is the coral sea not good enough for you? it is a map where everyone spawns on a carrier which has 12 planes, and the only real goal is to sing the other carrier.

yes, I know, but how will any of these other maps differ? I think they had to give the map a shot to appease the pilots, and there are too many ppl who go on and suck with planes and are generally stupid. I havent noticed, is it now on the rotation for regular EA servers?

I've also played IL-2 for sometime, not my game really though because seems that I just plain suck in flying sims. :P Anyway, the Mosquito is planned already for release. I also think that these would be some nice planes to have, but remember that BF1942 has 3 main vehicle aspects: Air, Land and Sea. It's not just like that DICE will spend all their time doing airplanes. I'm more of a ground-based person and I think that the way DICE is making new stuff is nicely balanced. However, IMO a Hurricane could be a good addition. You could easily make a Mk. D cannon conversion mod from it, which would be a AT-plane (counter-part for Stuka.) And also it could be a normal fighter plane.

Personally, I luv coral Sea, except.... there are about 20 tkers per server, and everytime u take off, they either shoot at u, blow you up, flak you, or give ur plane heavy dmg... It's a shame all those little Christmas freeloading kiddies are so damn greedy, they shoulda just stuck with Barney.

1st off you can have a map and server just for flyers and if you dont like it stay out of the server!!!!!!!!! I have every WWII flight sim ever made and they all fly diffrent so some times i like the bf1942 flight modle so what that doesnt mean there cant be a server for flyers........ Dont like it stay OUT

I really like Coral when I just feel like flying around for a while. You can always just not bomb the enemy carrier and instead shoot down all the planes that are going for yours. Or when the map editor comes out just make your own 100 plane map.

I agree that their should be some more flight intensive maps. And some more planes. The P51, P38, Stuka, Il2 and many other planes had guns that would damage or destroy tanks. The Ju87G had flak38 pods on hardpoints under the wings. Where the problem in gameplay balance would surface is in level design. For instance a B17 on Coral Sea would make the map worthless for the Axis team (as well as horribly inaccurate historically). It' s merely a matter of pitting the correct vehicles against one another. P51's and P47's with Firefly or Sherman support attacking a panzer column with mobile AA cannons with the final objective of destroying a german Fuel Depot (I like big explosions) would be even, however pitting an accurately designed P38 against 109's would be a bad plan. You think planes blow up too quickly now? Heh, try two 20MM cannons and two .50cal MG's blazing behind your 109. You'd be toast in one good burst. So weapon strength versus weapon strength is where the real balance is. You would design a map where there were 20 axis planes versus an allied team with no vehicles but 50 AA positions.

For a battle of britain scenario the brits should be able to have some flak operaters and maybe radar.
if they put in a P-47 it be good if they do make it ground attak , thats what it was. P-38 had 4 cannons as weopons , so give it good firepower. they should give more bombers , b-17 not enough. |
