new server for new clan

Hi all,

This is just a little post to spam my new BF1942 server I'm renting. I got the game about 5 years ago along with Road to Rome and Secret Weapons and it's probably my favourite game ever (that I've played). The strange thing is I'm quite rubbish at it, but I don't play games very often and FPS games are not really my forte. I just love playing it even though most people are better than me. Cue the violins.

Anyway, I'm happy to keep the server going and hoping it will become the home of a new or even existing clan. I wouldn't want to be a player in the clan as I'd be a liability, but maybe in future if I practice a lot. I'd just be the administrator for now.

It's hosted by Game Servers - Dedicated Clan Server Hosting & Rental using a London, UK server and I find my ping is always about 30 as I live in the UK. For now it can hold up to 20 players so I'd be looking for 10 people to form a clan. I'd be happy to increase the capacity if/when it gets more popular. At the moment it's running all pure BF1942 maps (not including the expansions) but obviously I can change it to include different maps whenever necessary. I've just called it "GameServers.com BF1942 pure" for now and the address is 217.163.30.166:14567

PunkBuster is not running on it at the moment because as some of you know there's a problem with the latest version whereby it kicks players because of an initialization or handshaking failure. I had to disable it after it kept kicking me from my server, so I'm hoping PB is corrected soon.

Well, if anyone's interested in forming a new clan then please reply to this thread or send me a PM. I know a couple of people that are interested but I need more.

Thanks very much Mr. Hahn for putting it on the news page! I really appreciate that. I made a little donation to the site aswell.

At any one time there's usually about 500 BF1942 servers and about 1000 players online, so I'm hoping for more than the average of 2 players per server. This is really gonna help. Thanks again.

Update:

I've just managed to sort out PunkBuster on my server. It's now enabled and working properly. Important for a possible clan server I think.

For anyone that's interested and doesn't know, if you've got a corrupt installation of PB on your server or an old version that's not updating, this is what to do:

1. Stop your server via the remote manager.
2. Delete the contents of your server's "pb" folder via an FTP client.
3. Go to PunkBuster Online Countermeasures and click on the game you need PB for.
4. Click on downloads and read the next page carefully.
5. Download the files you need to your hard drive and copy them to your server's empty "pb" folder via FTP.
6. Make sure "Enable PunkBuster" is selected in the remote manager.
7. Restart your server via the remote manager.

PB will then install itself on your server by downloading additional files automatically.

This is extremely simple stuff, but it might help someone new to it like me.
