Default Dumb Question Time

HI all,

I enjoy Call of Duty and have recently been stung by my own lack of investigation into the nature of Company of Heros. I was looking for similar to Call of Duty and got a strategy game with virtually no readily available source to find out how to work it. Ah it sits on the shelf.

Dumb question one: Battlefiield 1942 complete collection and the Battlefield 2 series seem to talk all about online play. Is it possible to play single player, by ones self at home on a PC similar to Call of Duty.

Dumb Question two: Are these games one on one participation similar to Call of Duty or are they strategy where one commnads a group of items towards a goal?

Thanks
Mike

The singleplayer campaign for battlefield 1942 and battlefield 2 are only simliar to call of duty in one way. They're singleplayer. In Call of duty you have a story, in battlefield you just try to capture flags across the map. It's pretty much the multiplayer game but with bots.

There is teamwork online, you can choose your class and each class works towards helping your team in some way. That's about as good as i can answer them.

Tks, I don't understand what you mean by bots. In Call of Duty I am the soldier firing the gun, driving the tank, etc etc. The story I guess is in the campaigns or the routes you take to get to the completion.

In Battlefields is it the same in that I as a soldier work my way towards a goal (points on a map if you will) by my skills and does it show me as part of a group working towards something. The demos all just show groups of soldiers doing something not necesarily as an individual sighting down the barrel so to speak. Does one move from one completion to the next or ??

I appreciate the help. Just don't want to spend $60+ bucks if it's not single player. At this point, I'm not really intersted or good enough to be involved in online playing.

Tks
Mike

Singleplayer is pretty much the same game as online, only instead of playing against real people you're playing against bots. Bots are computer controlled players, same sense as call of duty except there really are no goals except to take flags until one team runs out of points.

thanks Mark,

Is the quality of game play and graphics as good single player and the challenges of taking those flags i.e the skills needed to move through different battle areas, etc. I'm not sure what you mean by no story. Is there a starting point and a goal to get to that one has to fight through various battles to accomplish before moving on to the next?

I guess I'm asking is it as good single player as to the game, the challenge to accomplish the mission, the graphics and varying influence of the opposing soldiers as is COD.
Thanks for putting up with the questions.

Battlefield is more like a capture the flag game than a scripted singleplayer campaign found in games like MoH or CoD. The AI for the bots in BF is focused more on capturing points and driving tanks and flying planes to attack other bots on the field. The gameplay is much more open and variable, allowing you to adapt your strategy as needed, but at the same time, not requiring any real specific missions or goals aside from capturing and holding flag points.

Bots are basically AI, computer. I guess you could call 1942 and 2 a strategy game. I dunno lol.
