Default Shooting

I cant stand shooting in this game! NO matter what the ping.... the bullets are always delayed! You have to shoot half a screen infront of the guy in order to hit him.And that goes for eveygun! I own in every single game but this one because of the damn bullets going slow as hell! Why dont they use bullet prediction like in HL or something? Not being able to hit someone with an entire mag is very fustrating....and on top of that...the Engineers gun! WOW THAT THING REALLY SUCKS! The best they could do is make it on shot kill, or cock a bullet faster, I mean common! It freakin fire 1 bullet every 10 seconds, compared to the thompson that can fire 30 in 5 seconds, its kinda unfair...engineers are fun, but at the same time almost impossible with the bullet lag, and the dmg and reload time just felt like whinning about something

I find the lead with the guns to be quite fun. Most games are quite unrealistic in the fact the every gun fires a bullet like a lazer. As soon as your target is dead center screen you click the mouse and they are dead. This is a very different game. You have to try to outflank your opponent and get the jump on him. I do my very best to not fire until I have a great shot. I don't want to give away my position. This is not a run and gun FPS like MoH or RtCW. In thoes games the fastest wins. The top spots are always taken by the campers or the ones firing quickly, running in a circle and jumping at the same time. This game is a nice change of pace in my opinion.

"The top spots are always taken by the campers or the ones firing quickly, running in a circle and jumping at the same time."

That applies to BF 42 also. Haven't you noticed that in close quarters combat people circle strafe 80% of the time. I get killed 2/3 of the time that way. How realistic is that? I don't recall WWII soldiers being taught to circle strafe. Besides, if you did that in real life you'd loose all manner of accuracy. You shouldn't be able to hit shit while running. It's fine that the bullets don't hit instantly, but there's no way you could call the ballistics realistic. Bullets do hit instantly (for all practical purposes) at a range of 50 ft. Everyone griping about this has a legitimite complaint. I hope Dice looks into it.

I'm starting to find spraying a moving target on full while standing still, works ok on a moving target at close range. Still frustrating though.

"You have to try to outflank your opponent and get the jump on him."

Besides shooting at targets standing still at some distance, that's about the only way I get kills. You have to be sneaky and get the jump on the enemies. Get behind them, when they stop moving, let them have it.

Leading targets in planes, tanks, and ships is pretty straight forward. In plane dogfights it pays to be closer to the target and aiming just ahead of the engine even considering the closing speeds. Very nice ballistics indeed and very intuative. Leading a plane doing 450 MPH at 30 yards out by 1" or 1 1/2" using the machine guns on a destroyer and it feels right. Very nice ballistics.

Man running 20 yards out at 13 MPH (not 450 MPH) and you lead 1" to 1 1/2". ? Yeah sure it's a challenge and you can adapt, or you can see it's FUBAR'd.

NOT talkin about Hit boxes
NOT talkin about Hit boxes

Talking about leading targets
Leading targets in vehicles is perfect

I don't think campers do that well here. Cause the moment I get nailed by a sniper, I know where his position is. If he's still there after I spawn then there's a good chance he'll be dead. Since I know exactly where he is.

Now if the sniper shoots and moves around, thats a different story. But thats what a snipers job is.

On Bocage yesterday I got 30 rifle kills in about ten minutes from the windmill with the engineer's k98, about a third of which were on moving targets. If you take the time to aim, and get a feel for leading a target, you can kill at a pretty terrific pace. On open country maps like Bocage I take engineer as my anti-infantry class over all the others, because: His gun is identical to the snipers in every way except the scope, so you can make 95% of the same shots a sniper can with the "half-zoom" view that all guns get. (The other 5% are the shots outside the viewing distance of the 2x zoom).
Also, while the assult rifle is great at taking out infantry, even at fairly large distances, it brings ALOT of attention to your position with the muzzlefash and noise. Also, by aiming for the head, half my kills are made in 1 shot, so the time to operate the bolt isnt too much of a factor. A tip: If your first shot misses or doesnt kill in 1 hit, DONT shoot ASAP after you operate the bolt. Take an extra second or so to re-aim and track your target. (Of course this is assuming the target is at a safe distance away and not about to pass out of your field of view...otherwise shooting quick might be better). And on top of all this you have your mines, exppacks, and ability to repair vehicles.

However, as much as I love the engineer class, on a crowded level like Berlin, I'll go either assult or medic (If im axis and get the mp40). But on open maps where you can make a point of avoiding most close range battles, engie all the way for me.

I have become more proficient at killing enemies with grenades. I always spare the BAR or pistol for the grenade. If I see a soldier running 10-15 yards out I know I can kill him more effectively with a grenade.

When someone sees a grenade, what do they do ?
Look for who threw it?
No, they run away
Thats when another grenade closes the escape route. OUCH.

It's kinda like playing catch with an unwilling participant. Just lead the throw to bounce near them. They catch it whether they like it or not.
The effective blast radius of grenades is great, I've killed soldiers I didn't even see. I've learned to stake out the supply boxes on certain maps to reload. Playing single play with bots helps in learning the right distances to throw.
Of course it sucks when I get to a face to face confrontation and I am holding a grenade. Hope I can drop it soon enough to get the kill and take them with me.

I know everyone knows this... but for everyone else.

when sniping, when you shoot keep the button held. That way it won't zoom out right away. Lets you see what happened when the target is far away.

And before you say it, yes I know that tip is all over hells half acre...

I'll add a few thoughts on leading targets. The difficulty of leading troops can be overcome with practice, but in the meantime, you can still make plenty of kills by making yourself hard to spot in a position that gives good view of a wide area of action (Eg. a tall building, the cliffs in battleaxe, etc) and tracking a target until they stop. Once they stop you can aim straight at them. Now there is no stamina built into the game that forces an enemy to stop, but you'll find that most troops will stop at a regular basis to get their bearings, or to line up for a shot of their own, that's when you own them. Also, try sniping at odd angles to the enemies. Most times a troop is running laterally to you (the time when it's hardest to lead them) you'll have the advantage that they probably think the threat is the direction they are facing, so they will probably eventually take cover that will still expose them to you.
