...by far. I know Battlefield is built so that we can have large expansive maps that incorporate tons of different locales and play styles, but maybe its the tight city MOH-whore in me that has grown an affinity for slugging it out in buildings and behind overturned street objects.
As such, these maps are the ones I have started to gravitate to and enjoy the most now. And for all you PLANE-obsessed monkeys - we have those too! THe funny thing is that I hadn't played on ONE of these maps since getting the game. I mostly played on the island and desert maps (mostly cause those are what the server ran), and didn't venture out. My mistake. The first map I hopped on was STALINGARD. What can I say but wow. This one pistol-whips MOH's STALINGARD into the ground. I know MOH cant have the large maps as BF was designed for, but who wouldn't rather run around a whole CITY rathen than a complex. Now I dont know if it was something built into the script or not, but I could swear that I was run over by a train or SOMETHING hit me. Maybe it was a careless player (dont remember if FF was turned on on this server). STALINGARD was well laid out, with alot of key hotspots and some pretty fancy fighting in buildings. BERLIN came next and upped the ante. I remember folks talking about flanking on this map, that being one of the high points. And it is. While we didn't actually communicate this with each other. I hopped in a tnak after a teammate, and took off in the opposite direction as he did. We both flanked the enemies position, and lay into them. He was getting pasted, and more than likely was a nade from explosions(arriving before I did). But while the anti-tankers, and naders were comfortable in their spot, I slid in from behind and laid into them with the machine gun (yea a cock move since I couldve shelled them but I was feeling pretty confident). Suffice to say we took over the control point. Another fun move was running behind a tank, and using it for cover. The fun part comes in when someone manages to slip in under the tanks line of sight and start some "nade-planting", and being suprised to find a confidant in arms waiting for them. Lights out. (Dunno if this is actually a move or not - but pressing "ENTER" behind the tank "glitched" me under the tank it seems and I walked within the insides - ) MARKET GARDEN is another great one, this time with planes. Much of the same type of action with BERLIN and STALIN except theres that wonderful bridge (where I found many snipers in "spectator" mode - ), and the planes bombing from overhead. Not much to say about this map that hasn't been said already, but I know for certain that most of my next few days will be spent on these maps until I can appreciate the island and desert maps some more. It'll be a hard sell though - definitely. |

Personally I really enjoy the naval battles. I think Midway is my favorite map so far, I just love cruising the battleship around being king of the seas. Give me an engineer kit, maybe a teammate as the same, and the battleship will be invincible. It's great to be able to take out the enemy carrier in one or two volleys from those massive guns. The battleship's only weakness is it's completely defenseless against a sub. I want to know why they didn't throw some depth charges on the ship. Not like there's a shortage of room for the damned things. Oh well, I guess that's why the destroyer has its uses!

I was gonna say, last night on Midway I popped off 2 battleships with just 6 sub torpedos. Without the help of a destroyer, a battleship is a sitting duck to a sub. Then again, Dice did describe the game as kindof a rock/scissors/paper setup. For each class/vehicle, there is a counter class/vehicle that can take care of it. I think it creates some good balance.

But yea they be there. And yes SWAD, those maps have some nice ass firefights. The only thing that gets my goat is that as soon as the AXIS rushes from its Spawn point, there are three AXIS waiting for you, cause they know you have to come from there. So they'll lie in wait getting a few easy kills - since theres only TWO tanks and not everyone can hitch a ride and/or the tank users dont care to create a barrier. And - lets not forget having an unbalances server, being spawned at your location, ALLIES behind you clipping you as you spawn. Since it's the MAIN spawn point that CAN NOT be taken over, and there are tickets left, all someone has to do is stand with a tank and some cover and mow your ass down. Bad-pool there. |

The ships with the depth charges are the destroyers. They are a bit smaller than the battleships. If I could just get someone in a destroyer to escort me around the map I would do great. It's a good thing not too many people use the subs, cause that could get ugly.
But now that I think about it, if the sub is submerged it is quite a bit slower than the battleship. So the battleship can just outrun him, and if he surfaces to catch back up, BOOM! 5 artillery shells across his deck ![]() |

I typcially run a sub in 3rd person from a view behind it. I submerge it just before it goes into complete submerge view. Like this only a small bit of the periscope is above water. By doing this you are very hard to see. When I come across a battleship, I can usally sink the sucker w/6 torpedos before I am discovered or the battle ship can evade me. You can launch the torpedos from a long ways back and hit. Depending how the sub captain does it, quick work can be done to a ship from a sub.

We all have our favorites. I clearly enjoy the larger, more empty maps myself, ones with only small portions that contain towns or villages. In order of my preferences....
1) Battle of the Bulge. What can I say... nothing is more impressive to me then 6 or 7 tanks slugging it out around snowy, forested, hilly terrain. With bridges to mine, no less!!! 2) Galaza. Tanks... mountains... canyons... bridges... fighters... B-17... just makes me drool listing all the things I like about this map. I've played those two most extensively since the full version came out. The others I've all looked at but haven't played as much, though I think most have some strong point I find intriguing.

I'm with you Special ED. I played Stalingrad for the first time about 4 nights ago and I think I was shell shocked by the time it was done. What a well thought out map and the intensity was something I've never experienced in an FPS. Berlin - not quite so intense but a nice building to building fighter. Market Garden - Just about the best choke point map in the game IMHO...

And thats the reason I like BERLIN, nice building to building combat. And god damn this game sounds great with some KOSS Headphones on. I missed 7 calls during my game playing yesterday. |

Since there seems to be alot of folks into the tightly confined city maps, I'll add Berlin Conquest as a third map for the weekend. Each map will go through 5 rotations before loading the next one, so you should get a chance at some point to play one of the ones you like.
1) Gazala Coop 2) Berlin Conquest 3) Wake Conquest

Market Garden is cool.
I love the battles for those two outposts at the end of the bridges. or sometimes the church is the scene of the big battle. And Stalingrad is very "immersive". I like running through the streets with a half dozen of your pals, then fighting close quarters with the enemy. And when you see a tank coming at you out of the haze.........cool.
