Default Newbie Questions

I've just bought BF1942 Anthology and played it last night. !hat a great game! Now I have some questions.

1. When I tried the online play I kept getting 'Incorrect version' error. I guess I need the latest patch. Is it 1.6 and where is the best place to get it from?

2. What does Punkbuster and pure in Gamespy mean?

3. Is there any way to replay what happened in a game or view the action from a different viewpoint. I look at some of the screenshots around and wonder how they are captured. When in a game usually any action I think worth capturing is over before I can hit pront screen.

Hello and Welcome to the forums

1. you need version 1.6b to be able to play online.

2. Punkbuster is an anti cheat system that is integrated into the game.

3. There is no facility for recording or viewing gameplay although you do get different cam views i.e. static cam, death cam, free cam. A player can record someone else in real time but they have to use a third party peice of software such as fraps.

Hope this helps

The best way to get good screen shots is to use freecam and pause. You can do from the game console (press ~) and enter the commands:

freecam 1
hud 0

The freecam command does not work if you have spawned ingame, so when the games starts, don't choose a spawn point and just close the spawn interface or, if you have already spawned, open the spawn interface and commit suicide. When you turn off the hud, you can hit pause and it doesn't show up on the screen. That way you can pause the action, zoom around the map till you find a good place to take a screen shot.

Well impressed with online play!

Just a couple of points, once or twice, even though I had selected a spawn point from the map it insisted I hadn't so I had to wait until the game finished before I could start again.

Also, having enabled freecam, how do I control it?

With the standard movement keys. Remember, it doesn't work if you've spawned, you have to be dead to use it. Also, while in freecam mode, the Ctrl key lets you move quickly across the map and the shift key moves you slowly, which is good for fine tuning your position before taking a screen shot.
