New comment about being on AA guns (semi lengthy post)

I don't care how leet you are...when manning the AA guns in BF1942,
it's damn hard to nail the enemy planes and friendly planes at times.

You have your mini map and you are in AA gun.

You are pretty good at determining VISUALLY your friendly planes.

It's still hard as hell to determine (via the mini map) who the hell you are shooting at with friendly planes in the air nearby.

The mini map direction arrow is of NO use.

I accidently AA gunned my own team plane too much, didn't kill him.

So he comes around and bombs my AA gun position and TK's me,

Hey! For one thing..he was in a dogfight with lots of enemy planes nearby.
El Alemein.
For another...he buzzed our flag like he was gonna bomb it.
Any stupid shit that dives his plane down menacingly on friendly flag is bound to
get shot down accidently. I pay attention to the map..but when your in the AA gun...
the map and direction of planes isn't very accurate via the mini map.

I'm not sure where you're going at. Either you see it's an enemy plane or not... that's your problem.

Yeah, thats what we all do cas. Pretty sure you are the only one with this problem. if you havent mastered it yet, best to give up trying.

Nah, I shoot my own people on Coral Sea all the time. If I'm manning the Axis carrier, and doing my best to kill the asshats that bailed onto our ship, keep the wrench turning, trying to stay alive, and trying to take down overheads, I have a couple things on my plate.

Having said that, if a teammate bails over the US carrier and manages to snag a Corsair..........STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM OUR SHIP FFS!!!!!!

Why some people grab an enemy plane and head back home I will never understand. You're begging for it. And if you're lining up with the runway to check if the local fighter spawned so you can dump your 2 seater.....again you're begging for it and should be out trying to kill somebody.

And when somebody is taking our planes and using them to kill us......if you line up on his run that he's just come in on 3 times in a row......expect to catch some flak.

Just download some neon skins and no fog hacks. Helps a ton.

In all seriousness the ones that get me the most are desert maps. Bf109 look a hell of a lot like spitfires from a distance.

It's not easy, and I agree with what ya said. I will mention, that zooming in the map can help differentiate friend from foe since you see everything closer. Another option is to just announce to your team a No Fly Zone over your position and if they come nearby they'll be shot down, combined with voice chat of some variety you can set it up so you know the first guy flying past is your guy and the two following him are the enemy.

Cas's right on with this one, it gets damn tough. Easy on the EA pubs, where friendly fire is off. But FF servers... dunno, it gets damn tricky. I just play it pretty conservative- which winds up being safer for not shooting down teammates, but not anywhere near as effective for knocking out the enemies.
Helps a *little* bit for me to zoom out the minimap... at least you get a somewhat better view of the friendly planes.
