Default hideous monitor related question

this has been troubling me for a long time.

it's really not all that troubling, but hey, I haven't been able to play BF1942.

whenever I load up into the game, the screen hideously warps itself, so much so that readjusting the monitor settings just doesn't cut it. keep in mind that this has only happened when I finally got the new comp and not with the old machine, though I have used the same monitor on both, and on the other with no trouble.

adjusting the resolution doesn't seem to work either - it's still distorted beyond playablity. this ONLY happens playing BF though. not any other game even BFV. just BF. it is extensively mysterious.

any suggestions?
