Mapping in BF 1942 isn´t as easy as you might think. Especially if your wanting to create serious maps, theres no way around Editor 42.
But its not exactly newbie friendly so you´ll have to find some good mapping tutorials. Ask google where to find them...

With bf42's system and the community support, most custom maps wont be played if they aren't part of a map pack or mod. And most respectfull map packs and mods use ED42. BC42 is rather shoddy. Heightmaps are ok, but textures are horrid. Not to mention the preloaded object limit.
What you really need to map with BC for DC tho, is to find DesertCombat.lst off planetbattlefield or some shit. Theres lots of in depth tuts that you can find.

Go to planetbattlefield and find some tutorials on the left menu on the side of the site.
If you can't find www.planetbattlefield.com put it into google.
