HELP ASAP PLEASE, CANNOT PLAY GAME!!

I gotta problem. I got the battlefield 1942 anthology and all of the programs installed successfully, but it will not play. When you start the game, the small battlefield 1942 screen appears in the middle of the screen, it goes to a full black screen, and then crashes back to the desktop. What can I do to fix this? I have Windows XP with a video card that is supported by the game, and all of the requirements are met by my computer. (it is about 6 monthes old, and is one of Compaqs most powerful)

I used to get that but cant for the life of me remember what it was that caused it :/

Give us more details:

System specs, Windows version, when does it occur ?, do other games crash aswell ?, what drivers do you have installed ? have you installed the latest 1.61 patch ? have you treid reinstalling ? etc.

I have reinstalled the game 5 times, and the error occurs on this game, and on HALO, but that is a different problem, I think. The error only appears on the game startup. From this point I cannot even run the game.

open up VideoDefault.con file

change: renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0 to: renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1

Tried that, it didnt work, actually, the setting was already at 1, so I didnt have to change anything.

Well formating should solve every software related problem but that is a rather drastic measure.

But if you do have multiple software conflicts as you stated (Halo, Battlefield) it might be the solution.

ok i have this / similar problem

last year i ran BF fine no problems but this year with the new patch it dosnt work for some reason
btw i just formatted 2day updated all my drivers etc ... when i installed it and ran it it worked fine no problems what so ever
but as soon as i update, i try to run it it like loads the bf logo screen then goes and stays on desktop... but if i check my processes it says its runnnin but nothing evere shows up
ne1 got ne ideas why
