Fellas,
Maybe you can help me with some issues. I have a Logitech Freedom 2.4 Cordless joystick since quite a while but find myself rarely using it. When I use it, it is great, but here are the issues I have that keep me from wanting to use it on a regular basis: First, when not using the joystick I use the left shift key for ‘mouse look’ to look around the air from my plane in all directions obviously without changing my planes direction. When I use the joystick I seem to lose this option whether I leave the setting as is and go back to the mouse to look, or if I set ‘mouselook’ to a button on the joystick. Is there a way to set up the joystick so that I can hold a button in and look around with the joystick? Or even use the 8-way directional hat switch on the joystick to look around? Second issue is this, and this is why I will post this in the Desert Combat section as well as the General Discussion forums. Is there a way to set things up so that the joystick is used for the airplanes but not for the helicopters? Though the joystick improves my handling of the jets, I am much more capable using the keyboard with the helicopters. I can simply just use the keyboard buttons and not touch the joystick, but the throttle on my joystick is such that finding perfect zero force is hard, so when I jump in a heli I may lift off before I hit the gas on the keyboard, or when I let up on the gas in the air, I may drop like a stone. Any help anyone could give me with these issues would be a gigantic help. Thanks all. I appreciate it. BomberMacIsaac |

I do use a joystick for flying the helos and jets but don't use my throttle. I set up my throttle by sitting in a helo and setting it so either I am just about to lift off or I slightly do. Then when I jump in, I am hitting the down key if I need to stay put and I don't leap up into the air. I then use the forward/backward keys to throttle up or down and if I let off, I don't drop like a rock but it does lower me. Excellent for hovering as well. Then when I fly the jets, throttle is set for slow flight and I use the keyboard again to go fast or slower. Seems to work really well....

Yeah Mav, that is what I do. I have the hat set to switch to the different views. To be honest I don't know if there is a mouselook. I've tried that in flying games before and always end up losing my heading or crashing really badly LOL. I have the hat set to look reverse so when I am flying I can quickly check my six. The other views I don't use so much in the air...
Hope someone has a definite answer on the mouselook for ya. Will check it tonight if I have time... |

I'm not sure of the difference between "mouselook" and "freelook", but those who are interested might take a look at this thread....

RichM, that's for the link to the other post. That seems to be exactly what I need however I am having trouble with it working. Seems that as many changes I make to the Air.com file, when I enter the game and try it out it goes back to the defaults. I see from the instructions that this can happen if you go back into the controls screen in BF but I do not but when I play it goes back to what it was and when i check the Air.com file when i get out it is reset without my changes which I saved. This is exactly the advice i needed, just does not seem to be taking for some reaso. Any ideas fellas? Maybe someone from the original post could join the topic? If not maybe I will revive the old post. Thanks all in advance for any more help you can provide.

MaIsaac, go for reviving it...I tried this a while back, and I couldn't get it to work either, so I gave up and learned to live with the limitations. :/ I'm too damned scared of really screwing something up and having to uninstall/reinstall everything...
Just make sure you apologize profusely when you resurrect it, or beware the flames! ![]()
