Default The Future of BF1942

I have been reading the CAL and CPL forums latley and by what it sounds is that the BF1942 community is dwindeling. More or less what i am saying is that EA and DICE only care about the pubbers and not about the competetive gamers.

I believe that the future of bf1942 is up to us the bf1942 community. We must make a stand for the BF and contact EA so that this game can keep going with a proud future.

Roman,

Judging by what I just saw over at CAL after reading your thread plus what I am watching go on over at TWL in terms of who is playing and what they are playing, this is a done deal (note the lack of interested recruits on all the forum boards). I don't like it, I like this game, but it looks like the only reason 90% of those clans haven't switched to BF:V already is the CPL and once that takes the hit it's about to (lack of teams) and is played out, you are going to watch interest in this game nosedive. Further with the sudden resignation of JasonC over at CAL I'm wondering if CAL/CPL intends to force clans to play CAL another 90 days after CPL or give up their winnings. This would not be atypical CAL/CPL behavior. They have been mute on this point, and on the TWL board it's all about the funeral for BF42 with a bunch of “the best this” “the best that” kind of posts. EA made a bad call releasing BF:V now and the community is going to pay for it as the are customers buying BF42 don't know they're entering what is most likely a dead game in terms of good competition. I hope I'm wrong. Time will tell.

Battlefield was destined to be exicuted by Half Life 2 mods and Doom3. It has achived a reprieve at the last minute, and will get another half year of popularity.

Dont expect it to be around as much by the end of the year, with most ISPs changing their battlefield servers for other games servers.

I think that would be the case if they're arent any mods. But, due to the community and EA giving mod tools upon release, BFV might get a longer life. If HL2 comes out in the end of the year, with Doom 3, well theres something there. But Doom 3 is all single play (4 person DM, no thanks...) and HL2 is besides a single play, and very mod relatent game. I think a well developed game like BFV will have a place.

Yes give ppl a bit time until they have upgraded their hardware, and i think the whole bunch of good BF mods will switch over to BF:V.

Vietnam is boring, i dont think ive played it for about 2 weeks now.

Its so archady. Granted classic is like this, however classic had one thing going for it. VARIETY!

Im so sick of jungle maps. Thats no fault of the title, thats all vietnam is. But classic had 16 maps, covering everything from open fields to desert to oceans.

Im glad to see EoD moving there, and im sure they will make the game super dooper, however the game is no battlefield 42.

A game and a forum to be worthwhile reading and posting to for 2 years
is pretty damn good.

Lately this place running outta steam for early joiners.

All that is left is Off Topic Forums....and it's mostly the dregs there too.

The game itself has years left.

Absolutely, one of the best games i've ever played or ever will. Bf42 has burnt it's mark in my heart and will stay with me forever. Too bad Vietnam went as arcade as it did. Maybe with patches we will get a better game.
But the way it is now, my interest in the game is fading.

Bf1942 made me interested in computer games again.
I had almost lost all interest of them when this little pearl was released. And i've stuck with it for almost two years. Thats a lot for a game in my book. So Gg people, its been fun. but my Thompson is at the moment put away in the closet. Maybe not for good but i'm tired.

What ever the future holds for BF42 time will tell I guess, I don't have BFV yet, I intended to buy it. But never did . Like others have mentioned. Theres alot more variety in BF42, maps, vehicles, nationalities.

One thing is guranteed they've built a strong fan base and if BF42II ever comes out. It better be really good and improved, things we want like, destructible terrain, weather effect, spreadding fires, mortars etc....

I'm sure the old gamers would come back in droves.

BF is way more than just an FPS, and thats what can place it above Doom3 and HL2 at least in terms of gameplay. Shooting people is fun, but the BF fanbase is unique because people that play this are interested in more than just running around with a big gun, they want vehicles. I dont foresee he BF fanbase dwindling, reduced yes, but not to the point where only 200 people are playing at any time. BF is just too good a game to become relegated to the pits of the have-beens.

I like BF wholeheartedly. It has been and will be one of my favorite games ever.

BFV just kinda bores me. I agree with Urseus, I'm just tired of seeing jungle, jungle jungle. BFV just hasn't brought about the same awe that I got when I played BF when it came out and couldn't stop playing it. I have attended these BF boards since August 2002. Not bad for a game. Shows it is a community rather than just a game to play.

I've seen BF ripen with age, but I think there will always be people that play it. As far as leagues go, eventually it will die down, but I really don't see it dying for a little while. I know BFV shouldn't be able to replicate it, maybe some MODS will expand on it and hopefully make it better but pure Official BFV just is too boring.

I still enjoy Regular BF and can still play it for hours and time flies. Time will tell what will happen to this game.

Fortunately we have all had the chance to see it start and grow to what it has become.

a game never lasts forever, just like a human being. battlefield 1942 is a great game, but it won't last forever. so we just have to make the best out of it before everyone gets bored of it.

Switching between vanilla and DC is a good way to keep it going.

I've switched between my favorite mods for a long time. I like to see that 1918 came out and The great War. The russian mod looks interesting too. As long as the keep updating the MODS, I'll keep playing em.
