Does anyone think it would have been better to use the Ghost Recon Engine for this game? From what I have seen in the demo, and what I have read on this forum, many of BF 1942's maps seem to be a bit featureless. Ghost Recon's maps are as big (or nearly as big) as BF 1942's but they have a wealth of objects on them such as buildings, bunkers and particularly trees. Also, I think in general Ghost Recon's graphics are better than BF's, however you can't use vehicles in Ghost Recon.

Uhmm.... Last when I recall playing Ghost Recon, I don't recall at ALL any maps being on the sheer scale as some BF1942 maps. El Alamein--nuff said. Also, I find the graphics in BF1942 to be quite outstanding. Don't think I'd call GR's graphics better by any means.
That's my perception.

Can you drive planes and vehicles on ghost recon? I haven't played it, so I don't know... but if not, then no... or else they'd have to heavily modify the engine to include all sorts of extra stuff, including all the craploads of polygons they use... I hear around 4 thousand for people, 3000 for planes, 2000 for jeeps or so, 10000 for ships. I dunno know, just what I heard.

No you didn't get to drive trucks, tanks, planes etc, but there where plenty of them in the game. The bad guys did the driving. But again, the object of the game was completely different. Special Forces teams infiltration to get the job done; doubt that tanks are needed or planes for that matter to do something they're trained to do quietly.

I'm guessing you played the Tobruck SP demo and not the Wake Island MP demo. Wake island has a wealth of objects and trees. I think Tobruck does a good job of representing what it is: A barren desert. The allied base has quite a bit of complexity though with plenty of details. Based on what I saw in the Ghost Recon demo I played, the BF1942 engine outperforms it in almost every way with the possible exception of player models/textures.

You said it. Imagine your surprise when you bump into countless invisible barriers. GR is nowhere's near as nice as this. The engine just can't handle the polys. GR was fun, for sure, but this is a blast.
