Just my thoughts, since I have been hearing a lot about lag, low FPS, etc.
I went to a 64 player server that had 44 players. I had about 10 FPS and I was lagging bad. I went to another 64 player server with about the same amount of people and I had around 30 FPS and very little, if any lag. Went to a 20 player server with 20 players and had 50 or so FPS and no lag at all. This tells me that lag problems are more then likely caused by servers trying to run a 64 player server on a T-1 with a celeron 500. FPS problems are just going to multiply by the state of your system and the number of bits that you have to process. This means that if you have a slower system you may not be able to play on a 32 > server. Just my thoughts, then again I am drunk. |

I also agree - I'm not getting angry with the people that are saying they are dissapointed - but it's more likely due to a poor server than poor coding in the game.
I get bad lag on a lot of servbers on the MP Demo, but thats because of the server, not the game itself. I join another server which is a 64 player and get bareley any lag, obviously a good server. Just be patient and wait a few days for some good servers to start up - big hosting companies like jolt will start servers soon. Be Patient! ![]()

So the res you play at affects your connection
hmm....i always thought it was machine dependant i have a g4128 4600 and an athlon 1.4. It runs phenominally well single player, but mp is a little choppy. I play on the setting above 1024 with 32 and all settings on. I hope its more stable.

It depends what CPU AND what connection the server is running on. Because of the nature of BF1942, an ADSL server can only really support 4-6 players max, with minimum lag.
But you get people who don't realise that and open up a 32 player server, when games like that need to be left to the T1's with good CPU's. The game has been out for like a day - there simply wont be many good servers at all. Especially if the majority of them are run by someone on a Cable/ADSL connection on an average CPU.

In addition to computer specs of the server and client, your connection type plays a big factor. If you notice on the Multiplayer menu where the servers are being browsed, there are some check boxes on the lower right. That HAS to corespond to your setting. If it is set at 56 k it WILL bottleneck your performance...

Here's my question, though. I'm seeing these issues I've mentioned on other threads even on the offical EA servers (where my ping is about 50ish). What gives? EA's own servers not up to par? Seems like a bad move on EA's part to do that.
Anyway, I'll reiterate what i've said on other threads... I think they underestimated what a server REALLY needs under its hood. Certain maps are realy hogs... they almost need required server specs for certain maps. "If you're running map X, Y, Z, and this many players, you need this. If you're running map A, B, C, and this many players, then you only need this." and so on and so on. Seems certain maps are really bad compared to others.

Wow... kinda funny. Do you guys remember my long wirteup?
http://www.bfnation.net/forums//view...=asc&star t=0 I very clearly pointed out that you need to look what connection and horse power a server runs on. If BF1942 has one archilies heal it is the amount of bandwith the server requires. I don't think horsepower on the computer is the biggest problem. I just think most servers are not on a "fat" enough pipe. Will be interesting where this is going. |

Amen Karsten, that is too true. One easy way to check cpu usage is the little dot next to the server icon. Don't join one unless it's green! If you join a yellow/red one you will totally be warping all around.
Any0ne remember the old quake days, when lag just meant you had to lead your target a bit more? i guess netcode has gotten a bit more complex these days, plus add in the vehicle factor, my how things change! One problem last night was that there were too few servers. In the MP demo I saw 800 usually, with the number climbing to 1000 frequently. Since the game was not too easy to obtain yesterday, I think that a lot of those people with good servers haven't gotten the game yet. The most servers I saw on at one time last night was around 300. This number will grow fast in the next few days, for sure. |

Hmmm, then what does that say about the EA servers? Was green when I joined, and had a low ping. Friend was saying the same. He played a lot on non-ea servers and all was quite well.
Humorous... EA can't even front their own respectable servers for the game that can handle it.
