Try a freinds disc,
I had a game once that just would'nt install. Turned out to be the disc. Might save you a boat load of trouble-shooting. With any very poplular game like BF there's bound to be few lemons out there. Start there. If it's not the disc, I'd try a basic hardware forum, sound like your CDRom may have issues. |

i had this problem once. but that was when i was big n00b with computers. i had deleted the bf1942 folder to "uninstall it". the registry was still there so i couldn't reinstall. system restore helped. (ps. i had deleted the folder because i thought something was wrong with BF because there were these weird squares, turns out my vid card wasn't compatible) sooo its either the cd or you had done what i had.
