Default Very odd start up issue, please come inside and help.

I am running:

GeForce 4400 Ti

If I right click the game icon and turn on "256 colors" & "640x480" then the game will start, give me a black screen then exit to windows

I tried new 3D drivers, tried old 3D drivers and I still have the same issue. If I normally try to run the game, I get the hour glass for a second then nothing happens. I pulled up the "task manager" to see if the program was actually active when I was trying to open it and it appears that the program didn't even run for the split second I saw the hour glass.

Did anyone else ever have this issue, you click the icon and nothing happens, at all?

I also re-installed the game.

Have you tried not running at 256 colors?......Just try High Color 16-BIT......and then go out and buy a "19" inch monitor

I uninstalled everything again but went into regedit and deleted all assoications with "EA" "1942" and "Battlefield"

It runs but crashes after 5 minutes or so in a map, this is so much fun.

The game is 16bpp or 32bpp. I don't think the game will work with the 8bpp (aka 256 colors) setting. Try what Se7en suggested and run the game in high color (16bpp) or true color (32bpp). Also, if you are running a graphics card that doesn't support transform and lighting (T&L) then you may also be having issues there.

[edit]Uh, I guess I can't read ...

This is almost definitely caused by EA's completely senseless setting of the imposed refresh rate lock. If you're trying to run the game at any rate above 60Hz, your game will crash to the desktop.

Go to your BF1942 folder, doubleclick mods, doubleclick BF1942, doubleclick settings, and open your defaultvideo.con file with a text editor such as Notepad. Change the render.allowAllRefreshRates from 0 to 1, save it and go play!

Be advised that you must do this EVERY TIME you install a patch or upgrade. For some reason, Dice choses to reset this value to 0 with every patch.

Sorry for the dealy in responding to this, but I just saw it for the first time this morning.

You need to get a refresh rate override program if one isn't built into your video card settings page. I recommend ReForce video refresh rate.

CLICK ME! for the skinny on the program (including a link to the file).

EDIT: Doh! The file download link is in a registered user area. You can find the file at DSLReports by clicking HERE!

It lets you override the WinXP default 60fps lock. You can set your refresh rate to whatever your monitor can handle for each resolution. I have all of mine locked at 100Hz. No more restrictions in games.
