I have recently acquired a Logitech Extreme Digital 3D joystick and I can't seem to bind the throttle correctly.
My approach has been to use the Logitech Profiler software to bind joystick axis and buttons to the appropriate keystrokes in BF. Everything works EXCEPT I cannot emulate a gradient for the throttle. I bound 'W' to Throttle Up and 'S' to Throttle Down - which works, but it means that using the joystick throttle has only three modes: 100%; 0%; and -100%. I am expecting a smooth range depending on the exact setting of the slider; I don't always want to go at full speed and I'd rather not make constant on/off adjustments to the throttle while flying. I have NOT made any changes to the air.con file, but I am happy and willing to do so if anyone has advice. Thank you in advance. |

I have the same Logitech but I don't use any keyboard mappings for it. I use the throttle as is and because of that I only need 1 hand to fly. That makes it easy to just reach over with my other hand to change the throttle. Rudder control and everything is handled by the joystick, and you can set your views on the top button so there no need to use the keyboard at all. I guess it is just preference but I find this works well for me. I really really like this joystick

I still have my hands on the keyboard lol, and at first I still pushed the keyboard keys even though they were disabled hehehe. Its a hard habbit to break but well worth it...flying and owning with one hand and holding my beers in the other...life is perfect ![]()

Thanks for the reply. But I think I have not been totally clear.
I am actually using ONLY the joystick for flying (and I agree, the joystick is great). But I couldn't figure out how to enable the joystick from within the game - there is no option for it or I just can't find it. Can someone tell me if this option exists? I use the external Logitech Profiler software to translate joystick movement into the signals that the game interprets as keystrokes. Problem is that the keystrokes offer no gradient equivalent for the throttle. For example, when I throttle past the mid-point with my slider, it's as if I am just holding down the 'W' key. There is no way to achieve, say, 70% power. Quote:

Don't use the profile manager go into the game option and bind the keys in the air menu under controls.
i would suggest unistlling the logitech software but that a personal prefrence i've never had anything but trouble with it. As a side note, I experienced occasional conflicts from having a Microsoft Sidewinder USB Gamepad plugged in at the same time as the Wingman Extrememe joystick - mainly, the system would fail to recognize that I had the joystick plugged in. The best solution was to leave the gamepad unplugged. |
