HomeLan used to offer servers to groups in the community. I checked and couldn't find the link anymore and I doubt that they'd let us have a 32 player Battlefield 1942 server for free. There's a big difference between a 16 player DoD server and that.

The market today looks at whichever game has the best graphics. I don't really see why new features would hurt your system when you can just lower the quality. Bump mapping (or whatever) shouldn't be conflicting with the stability of your game if it's off, although you sound like it is. :/
